The Chargers will be moving back to the city where it all began in 2017. Los Angeles didn’t seem to particularly want the Chargers to return, but here they are. This team was snake-bitten in its last season in San Diego, blowing fourth-quarter leads all throughout last year. They were much better than their 5-11 record indicated, but that wasn’t enough to save Mike McCoy’s job. Anthony Lynn is the Chargers new head coach and will look to bring a more run-oriented style to this team.

Key Factors For Winning the Super Bowl
Good Offensive Line Play – The Chargers offensive line ranked 23rd in the run game and 24th in the pass game in 2016 according to Football Outsiders. This is one of the first things that Lynn will look to improve. He was run game coordinator in Buffalo and helped the Bills have one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL. The team signed Russell Okung to be its left tackle and are optimistic that he can rekindle the magic that made him one of the league’s best in Seattle. However, the unit already suffered a setback as rookie guard Forrest Lamp, a projected starter, tore his ACL in training camp. Now there are big questions regarding these guards.
A Healthy Keenan Allen – The Chargers rolled the dice last offseason by giving Keenan Allen a hefty contract extension although he missed half of the 2015 campaign with a kidney injury. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to reward the team’s faith as he tore his ACL in the season opener against Kansas City. Allen has now had three different injuries end his last three seasons prematurely. It was a broken collarbone in 2014 and the aforementioned injuries in each of the last two campaigns. Losing him has really hurt because he is the best wide receiver on the team and Rivers doesn’t have a good second option without him. If he can stay healthy though, he should have a nice year.
No Sophomore Slump for Joey Bosa – Bosa was fantastic as a rookie in 2016. Although he missed the first four weeks of the season because of a hamstring injury, he ended up winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year after racking up 10.5 sacks in 12 games of action. He was a holdout last season and should be better with a full offseason program to get better under. Bosa will be paired opposite Melvin Ingram in the Chargers new 4-3 scheme and the duo should be able to get good pressure on the quarterback. New defensive coordinator Gus Bradley stunk as a head coach, but was a fantastic defensive coordinator and should have this unit looking much better.
A Unique Home Field – The Chargers will be playing their next three seasons in an MLS venue until Los Angeles has a new arena built. LA will only have 30,000 seats available for home games this season and that could end up being advantage. With less than half the seating of the next smallest NFL stadium, supporters could create a definite edge if the team has enough local support. Tickets will be scarcer to come by and it’s more likely that only die-hards will be able to go and root the team on.
