NFL GAMES OF THE WEEK
Raiders at Chiefs – Thursday, December 8, 8:25 p.m. ET (NBC/NFL Network)
League analysts and Raider fans alike are excited about what this team can do following a busy offseason and a 2015 campaign in which Oakland was viable week in and week out. The one AFC West team the Raiders couldn't get past last year was Kansas City, which also looks primed to seriously contend for the division crown. With the back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back West champion Broncos still embroiled in quarterback turmoil, the division is there for the taking.
This will be the second game of the season series between the teams with the first being two months earlier. A lot can happen in eight weeks, but this one will likely have some division and conference playoff implications. It’ll be fun to see what Derek Carr, Amari Cooper and the boys can accomplish against Kansas City’s bludgeoning defense. If the Raiders have any thoughts of winning the West, they can't get swept by Kansas City again.
Seahawks at Packers – Sunday, December 11, 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX)
Aaron Rodgers vs. the Seahawks defense is always appointment viewing. The Packers weren't at full strength when these two squared off last season, but they still managed a win. Of course, Seattle was missing a weapon in safety Kam Chancellor and his absence probably had something to do with the outcome. Chancellor and Jordy Nelson will hopefully both be on the field this time around.
These two have been front-runners in the NFC for the past several seasons and that doesn’t expect to change in 2016, so we could be in for a doozy. And while the Seahawks get plenty of ink due to their defense, the Pack isn’t too shabby on that side of the football. And a late afternoon game in mid-December on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field can’t be too reassuring for Russell Wilson and Seattle’s offense.
Cowboys at Giants – Sunday, December 11, 8:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
Veteran quarterbacks Eli Manning and Tony Romo – barring another injury – will face off in a tough NFC East divisional matchup on Sunday Night Football. Both the Cowboys and Giants are looking to get back to the postseason after missing out last year, and this game could be crucial in making that happen. We’ll also be treated to the Odell Beckham Jr. and Dez Bryant watch to see who outdoes the other in highlight reel catches.
The Giants stunk defensively last season and made a huge splash in free agency by adding Janoris Jenkins, Damon Harrison, and Olivier Vernon. General manager Jerry Reese and first-year head coach Ben McAdoo are hoping that will make all the difference for Big Blue in 2016.
