Robert Griffin III could be the starting quarterback in a game in our nation’s capital. It just won’t be with the Redskins.
The Cleveland Browns, Griffin’s new team, visit Washington in what is the most anticipated matchup of Week 4.

NFL GAMES OF THE WEEK
Chiefs at Steelers – Sunday, October 2, 8:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
This matchup features two playoff teams from last season and gives us a pretty sharp contrast in styles. Kansas City tends to be more comfortable with games like last year’s between the two, when they won 23-13. The Steelers, on the other hand, tend to be pass-happy and do better in high-scoring games.
While late season games between playoff contenders generally get more attention, these early games can’t be overlooked. Both of these teams figure to be in the mix for a postseason spot again, so this one could well decide who makes it and who doesn’t. At the very least it could decide who gets a home playoff game.
Browns at Redskins – Sunday, October 2, 1 p.m. ET (CBS)
If he is the Browns starting quarterback, the return of Robert Griffin III to FedEx Field stands as the NFL’s premier Revenge Game of the Year in 2016. He couldn’t beat out his 2012 draft classmate and teammate Kirk Cousins over the long haul in Washington, and as it turned out, it was a loser-leaves-town showdown.
When you throw in that both head coaches – Washington’s Jay Gruden and Cleveland’s Hue Jackson – once coached under Marvin Lewis together in Cincinnati, this one will not lack for pre-game sound bites or significant meaning to both organizations.
Saints at Chargers, Sunday, October 2, 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX)
This game almost didn’t happen with the Chargers looking to relocate during the offseason and alienating a loyal fan base. One player those fans cheered for many years was Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who is 2-0 against San Diego since he joined New Orleans in 2006. But he has never played a NFL regular season game in San Diego against the franchise that drafted him in the second round of the 2001 draft.
This will likely be Brees’s one and only chance for that full-circle experience, and watching him against Philip Rivers, the quarterback who replaced him with the Chargers, deserves our full attention.
