NFL Betting Online: The Colts went all in this year in their attempt to reach the pinnacle, but can they get by the Patriots to play in February?
2014 Season Record: 11-5 SU, 10-5-1 ATS, 9-7 O/U
2015 Regular Season Wins Total: 10.5, -165 O, +135 U
Odds to Win Super Bowl: +901
Odds to Win AFC: +395
Odds to Win Division: -465
The AFC South might as well not play any games in 2015 and just book the Colts to play in January. Seriously though, that’s how much better Indy is then the rest of the division and the gap widened in the offseason.
Out with the old, in with the older. That seemed to be Indy’s motto, at least when it came to free agency. The Colts loaded up on proven vets who can still get it done, in a clear-cut bid to climb that last rung and conquer the Patriots en route to a berth in the 50th Super Bowl next February.
And on paper, it all looks good in adding receiver Andre Johnson, running back Frank Gore, linebacker Trent Cole and guard Todd Herremans to what is already the cream of the AFC South crop.
Indy has plenty of talent to cruise to another division title and 11 or 12 wins, but let’s see how the 30-and-up crowd is holding up come January.
Quarterbacks aside, there isn’t much separating the Colts from the other AFC South teams. Andrew Luck is far and away the best in the division but needs to cut down on his turnovers. We’re not ready to put him in the Hall of Fame just yet, but he’s working on it.
Still, he has improved each year, and was in the conversation for MVP at one point last season. Luck has guided the Colts one round further in the playoffs each year and looks to advance to the final game this year with a realistic shot at doing just that.
Luck has more weapons to work with on offense this season with the addition of Gore – who, by the way, can still bring it – ending the Trent Richardson era. Johnson and Phillip Dorsett upgrade an already excellent receiving corps.
The return of Robert Mathis, along with the addition of Cole, will give the Colts underrated D a boost with the two outside linebackers potentially giving the Colts their best pass rushing tandem since Dwight Freeney played on the other side of Mathis.
KEY ADDITIONS: WR Andre Johnson, DL Kendall Langford, LB Trent Cole, RB Frank Gore, G Todd Herremans, LB Nate Irving.
KEY LOSSES: DE Ricky Jean-Francois, S LaRon Landry, RB Trent Richardson, DE Cory Redding, S Sergio Brown, WR Hakeem Nicks, OL Shaun Phillips.
The Colts probably pick up four to five wins inside the division alone. They get the AFC East this year and the NFC South. Oh, and Andrew Luck picked up MORE WEAPONS this offseason. It's not hard to imagine this team putting up record-breaking numbers as they chase a Super Bowl. And 10 wins almost feels like the floor.
