NFL Odds - Jets Odds To Win the AFC

Jets-Odds-To-Win-AFC-bm

The New York Jets are widely expected to be the worst team in the NFL in 2017. Wins will be hard to come by, let alone a conference title. The Jets are the longest of shots to win the AFC Championship and that will scare off most bettors. But for you diehard Jets fans who believe miracles can happen, even the smallest bet will have a big payout. But honestly, that money would be better spent on another team.

Key Players for Winning the AFC

Josh McCown – It’s a stretch to ask the 38-year-old quarterback to put the team on his shoulders and carry them to a Super Bowl. But McCown has proven to be a reliable option when he’s healthy. And that’s the caveat. Though he’s been a starter at several of his stops along his career path, he has never played a full season. His last starting gig was a few seasons back in Cleveland when his 2015 season ended with an injury. McCown is just a band-aid for the situation and the hope is that either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg takes control. But until that happens, McCown is going to be the guy. He’s been with some bad clubs in his career so this situation isn’t new. And the Jets just might strike gold like they did a few years back with Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had his best season in the green and white.

Matt Forte – The Jets lost receivers Brandon Marshall to the Giants, Eric Decker to the Titans and Quincy Enunwa to a season ending injury, leaving the corps in a mess. The three combined for over 40 percent of the team’s receptions, 50 percent of the receiving yards and 56 percent of the scoring grabs. While a No. 1 a No. 2 and a No. 3 receiver need to be defined in the offense, Forte becomes a big weapon out of the backfield. Forte led the team with 813 rushing yards last season and also had 30 receptions. During his early years with the Bears, Forte was the ultimate weapon running for over 1,000 yards five times while catching at least 50 passes six times. He is an important piece to make the offense work.

Darron Lee – He’s the starting middle linebacker now that the Jets have moved on from the aging David Harris and the former first round pick needs to anchor the defense to keep the Jets in games. The front seven will be the team’s strength, but with limited mobility on the line, the group of backers, led by Harris, need to step up their game. Lee bulked up in the offseason to become a better run stopper and he is more athletic in coverage than Harris, who lost a few steps over the years. Lee was the 20th pick last year and it’s his time, along with the other young players on the defensive side of the ball to carry an offense that will likely struggle to score consistently.

Robby Anderson – As mentioned above the Jets lost a bunch of production in the passing game. That allows other guys to become the main option and Anderson is the likely option. Signed as an undrafted free agent last season, Anderson had the fire in his belly to make the team and succeed. He did both. Now he’s the team’s top returning receiver after hauling in 42 catches for 587 yards and two touchdowns last season. He showed big play ability with 10 of his receptions going for 20 or more yards and he averaged 14 yards per catch. He needs to build a rapport with McCown to become the Jets top threat in the passing game.
