It’s impossible to say that there should be another team favored ahead of the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. One of the greatest dynasties of all-time continues to show no signs of slowing down and are looking to win three titles in four years for the second time during their run. As long as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are together, it’s hard to bet against the Patriots.

Key Factors For Winning the Super Bowl
Finding a Replacement for Rob Ninkovich – Ninkovich’s retirement on Sunday raises some questions about this defense. He was the longest tenured member of the defense and one of the leaders. Although New England did have an inkling that Ninkovich might retire this offseason, the Pats didn’t make any concrete plans to grab a replacement. Instead, the Patriots spent two draft picks on the position and signed former Panther Kony Ealy to provide support. Perhaps more importantly, Ninkovich was one of those glue guys that everyone in the locker room loved. Losing that is going to hurt.
A Healthy Brady – In just a few days, Tom Brady will turn 40. Brady is going to go down as the greatest quarterback of all time, but even he can’t outrun age. He started to show signs of slowing down last season and there were rumblings about his future after the Patriots’ first round playoff victory against the Houston Texans. Brady came back and performed marvelously against Pittsburgh and then established himself as the GOAT after the comeback win against Atlanta in the Super Bowl. He is fanatical about staying in great shape and takes pains to keep his body running at a high level, but every NFL player starts to break down at 40. Doubters only need to look at Peyton Manning’s last two seasons in the league for how fast things can go downhill. Manning set single-season records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in 2013, throwing for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns. Two seasons later, he threw almost twice as many interceptions as touchdowns and hung up his cleats.
The Genius of Bill Belichick – Every other coach in the NFL is playing checkers, while Belichick is playing chess. Belichick’s record since joining New England is absolutely remarkable as he has been able to keep the Patriots competitive in every season since 2001. No other dynasty has had this kind of longevity. For all the jokes about the Patriots cheating or staying on top by other nefarious methods, Belichick keeps winning by working harder and scheming better than every other coach around. This isn’t a Nick Saban situation where he has far more resources than almost any other team, but one where Belichick is simply that much better than anyone else. Belichick’s shrewd handling of the salary cap and ability to acquire draft picks have helped sustain the dynasty. While other franchises sign above average players to cap-crippling contracts, Belichick chooses to let those players walk or deals them for picks before their contracts expire. During the draft, he is always wheeling and dealing and typically tries to trade down and collect as much assets as possible. It’s a chicken or the egg situation with he and Brady to determine who’s more important, but no coach is anywhere close to him.
