NFL Odds - Ravens Odds To Win Super Bowl 52

Since winning the Super Bowl five years ago, the Baltimore Ravens have had their fair share of woes. In the afterglow of the victory, the front office gave Joe Flacco a mammoth six-year extension and that contract has been a killer. The team has been in salary cap purgatory since that point and that has kept them from both keeping productive players and having quality depth.

Key Factors For Winning the Super Bowl

Joe Flacco – A back injury has kept Flacco out of the preseason and has limited him in training camp. He is just starting to throw again after more than a month of only taking part in certain parts of the team’s preparations for the season. Flacco has been marginal during his time in the NFL and has never been considered an elite quarterback. He has thrown double-digit interceptions in every season he has been in the league, while never throwing more than 27 touchdowns in a season. If the Ravens are going to win the Super Bowl, he is going to need to catch fire like he did in the 2013 playoffs. That postseason Flacco threw 11 touchdowns without an interception and posted a quarterback rating over 105 in every game.

Another good year from Mike Wallace – Playing in the AFC North again proved to be the elixir that Wallace needed to revitalize his career. Wallace was placed on the scrap heap after disappointing stints in Miami and Minnesota, and the Ravens rolled the dice by signing him. He had a very solid debut campaign in 2016, cracking the 1,000-yard mark and finishing with a catch percentage over 62 percent. Wallace is 31, but still is one of the fastest receivers in the NFL and is a constant deep-ball threat. The criticism throughout his career has been his high number of drops, but he only dropped two balls last year.

The emergence of another receiver – Steve Smith and Dennis Pitta are no longer on the team and with Crockett Gilmore out for the season, the Ravens are in dire need of another receiving option to emerge. Baltimore used a first-round pick on Breshad Perriman in 2015, but he has failed to live up to expectations. Perriman was unable to play during his rookie season after tearing a knee ligament and had a disappointing sophomore campaign. He dropped five of the 66 passes thrown his way and failed to be the slot receiver the Ravens wanted. Perriman has been hurt for most of training camp after pulling a hamstring in early August and hasn’t had the reps he needs. The Ravens signed Jeremy Maclin to alleviate these concerns, but he has not impressed in training camp. Someone needs to step up to complement Wallace.

An improved secondary – Baltimore put a lot of its chips into improving the secondary this offseason. The Ravens signed three big free agents and used their first-round draft pick to try to stop two of the best receivers in the game today. Lardaius Webb, Brandon Carr, and Tony Jefferson were brought in and should be an improvement from what we saw out of this group last offseason, while Marlon Humphrey will try to shake off the reputation that Alabama cornerbacks have when they enter the NFL. This unit could be one of the best in the NFL and it will need to be as the Ravens defense is pretty porous elsewhere.
