Seahawks-Odds-To-Win-NFC-bm

No team in the NFC has been more consistent than the Seattle Seahawks over the last five years. Seattle has won at least 10 games and made a trip to the postseason in each of the last five seasons and is primed to make another trip to the playoffs. The Seahawks are the favorite in the NFC because they have the least amount of questions and the most overall talent of any team in the conference.

Key Players for Winning the NFC

Russell Wilson – Wilson had the worst statistical season of his career in 2016. He was hampered by injuries all season long, injuring his knee and ankle and that limited his mobility and made him less effective. Coming into this season, all indications are that he has recovered well from his injuries and that he should be back to his old self in 2017. The offense needs him to be at his best in order to reach its full potential.

Eddie Lacy – The loss of Marshawn Lynch was supposed to hurt, but no one thought the running game would suffer as badly as it did. Christine Michael was the team’s leading rusher last season, but could only manage 469 rushing yards. Enter Eddie Lacy. Lacy was a solid runner for the Packers when he was healthy and in shape, but he showed up at training camp overweight and out of shape all too often. The Seahawks tried to remedy that by signing him to a contract that included all sorts of weight goals in order to keep his weight in check. Lacy hit them all this offseason and now enters this season looking like he was during his best years in Green Bay.

Paul Richardson – Richardson has been largely quiet during his three seasons with the team. He only has 51 total catches and has not lived up to the hype that surrounded his selection as a high draft pick. However, he began to show flickers of his talent possibly emerging last season. Seattle needs a solid No. 2 option across the field from Doug Baldwin and Richardson will get the first crack at the job. Tyler Lockett is still battling injuries and may or may not be ready for Week 1 and Jermaine Kearse doesn’t seem to be the answer. If Richardson can become a consistent option, Seattle’s offense just got a lot better.

Richard Sherman – The cantankerous cornerback is one of the few shutdown cornerbacks in the NFL, so it was unsurprising to see Seattle keep him despite both sides discussing trading him to another team in the offseason. Sherman’s results as a cornerback speak for themselves. He allowed just 44 catches on 85 targets last season and had twice as many interceptions as touchdowns allowed. The main concern is his sideline tantrums. Sherman lit into the offense and the coaching staff often last season and that led to some discontent in the locker room. If he can keep it together and play nice, this team will be better as a whole.

Bobby Wagner – It’s really hard to single out just one of these linebackers. Wagner and K.J. Wright are both among the best at their positions and adding Michael Wilhoite this offseason makes this corps great. Wagner is the leader of the unit though and is a two-time First-Team All-Pro. His speed makes him a tackling machine and he covers a lot of space in pass coverage too. Wagner will never get a ton of sacks because of his role in Seattle’s system but is one of the Seahawks most important players.
