It’s time for the Houston Texans to live up to the hype. Houston went for broke last season, signing Brock Osweiler to a big contract with an eye at a potential Super Bowl title. It was a risky move that didn’t pan out, but to their credit the Texans took a chance that many teams wouldn’t have in order to win a title. Houston cut ties with Osweiler this offseason and are now rolling the dice again, this time on rookie DeShaun Watson.

Key Factors For Winning the Super Bowl
DeShaun Watson needs to be the real deal – For whatever reason, NFL general managers decided they would rather have unproven commodities like Mitchell Trubisky and Pat Mahomes over a proven winner like Watson. The Texans were fine with that, moving up to select him at No. 12 overall. Watson was a superstar at Clemson and almost single-handedly led the Tigers to the national title over Alabama. He is the full package, but the main concern that scouts seemed to have was his propensity to be careless with the ball. Watson did make some mistakes and force some passes, but Clemson’s running game stalled out at times during the year and it was on Watson to make the offense go regardless. Neither Tom Savage or Brandon Weeden can lead this team to the promised land but Watson has the potential to be a star.
JJ Watt returning to form – Watt has been the best defensive player in the league when he is healthy. He has been named NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times and has terrorized quarterbacks in the AFC South. Defensive ends aren’t supposed to put up gaudy numbers playing in a 3-4, but Watt does exactly that and can get after the quarterback on any down. Houston has yet to see what this defense can do when he and Jadeveon Clowney are both fully healthy. Clowney started to live up to his immense potential in Watt’s absence last year and this duo could be devastating. It would be impossible to double-team both of them and would put a ton of pressure on opposing offensive linemen to not make mistakes.
Better Production from the Wide Receivers – DeAndre Hopkins welcomed the comparisons to Antonio Brown after a 1,500-yard, 10-touchdown season in 2015 and was ready to take another step forward in order to be considered an elite receiver by all. That wasn’t meant to be though as Osweiler struggled to get him the ball in good spots and he ended up falling below the 1,000-yard mark last year. Hopkins seems ready to put a long 2016 campaign behind him and has a talented partner in Will Fuller. Fuller played well enough as a rookie last season to earn praise from the coaching staff and could create one of the better wide receiver tandems in the NFL alongside of Hopkins. Tight end CJ Fiedorowicz could have a big year too. Some young quarterbacks are extremely reliant on the tight end and Fiedorowicz is the most proven pass catcher of the bunch. Watson preferred to throw to big targets during his time at Clemson and should make the most out of Fiedorowicz.
