Garrett figures to get plenty of playing time considering the team’s dearth of talent and will aim to turn it into some production. It will be interesting to see if he can surpass the projected number of sacks for him as a rookie in the 2016 regular season.

The 2017 NFL regular season kicks off on Thursday, September 7 with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots taking on the Kansas City Chiefs. Super Bowl LII will be played on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Odds Analysis

There hasn’t been any movement on the line since this wager was unveiled, which is a good sign that the odds are fair. Garrett seems like a gifted pass-rusher, but it’s not easy getting sacks in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see how many sacks he eventually accumulates, but for now the total seems like a solid number, as it’s hard to know which side he will end up on by the end of his rookie season.

Why Garrett Will Have More Than Six Sacks In The 2017-18 Regular Season

Myles Garrett had 31 sacks in his three years of college ball, averaging more than 10 sacks per season. He is a polished product who seems likely to come in right away and make an impact.

The college season is much shorter than the NFL slate, and all the extra opportunities will give him a chance to bring down opposing quarterbacks. Garrett is looked at as one of the more polished products from the draft, expected to make an impact from early on.

Even if he doesn’t play full-time, much of the action rookies miss comes in run-heavy situations as they try to adapt to NFL schemes. If Garrett is on the field for the majority of pass-rushing downs, he figures to have plenty of opportunities to accumulate more than six sacks.

It’s not a gigantic number, and one or two big games could get Garrett halfway to that goal. The Clevelend defense figures to be improved on 2017, and every time an opponent is in a situation where it is third and long, Garrett hopes to be a factor. Six sacks is not an outrageous amount, and if the star rookie sees enough playing time he can easily surpass that mark.

Why Brown Will Not Have More Than Six Sacks In The 2017-18 Regular Season

Most sacks are accumulated in the second halves of games when opposing offenses are forced to throw when they trail in a contest. The problem for Garrett is that the Browns are so bad that they will rarely be ahead this season.

Garrett will likely have to get his pressures in the course of regular game action, and if defenses pay him attention and block with multiple players, it won’t be easy. While the defensive end is undoubtedly talented, there is still a large learning curve to the NFL.

There are some good offensive tackles which will be able to command Garrett despite his athletic prowess, and if he is shut out of sacks for a few games, it makes it that much tougher. While the six sack mark is not a huge number, Garrett will quickly learn bringing down the quarterback in the NFL is a much tougher proposition than doing so in college football.
