While Trubisky has considerable potential, it’s unknown how quickly he will take the reins of the offense. The Bears were aggressive in free agency, and the addition of a veteran quarterback clouds the picture when it comes to how many starts Trubisky will make during his rookie season.
The 2017 NFL regular season kicks off on Thursday, September 7 with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots taking on the Kansas City Chiefs. Super Bowl LII will be played on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Odds Analysis
This wager is moving in a clear direction. Even though Trubisky isn’t going to begin the season as the starting quarterback, bettors know plenty can happen over the course of a season. The “over” has moved to the clear favorite, with the “under” the right wager if bettors agree with the oddsmakers that 1.5 starts is a good middle ground.
Trubisky is not expected to see much of the field as a rookie, but it’s hard to truly know what the front office is thinking, and how things will be playing out when the final month of the season hits.
Why Trubisky Will Have More Than 1.5 Starts In The 2017-18 Regular Season
Even though the Bears signed free agent quarterback Mike Glennon to a lucrative deal in free agency, the belief that he will be anything more than a stopgap was immediately doubted once the selection of Trubisky became official.
The Bears moved up in the draft to nab him, making it clear that Trubisky is the future of the franchise. Glennon is sure to be the starter when the season begins, as it is hard for a rookie to grasp the playbook in a number of months.
However, Trubisky could make up for lost time later in the season. All he needs is two starts to pass the total, which could come in the final two games of the year if needed. If the Bears have only won four or five games at that point, it makes sense for the coaching staff and front office to see what it has in the young signal-caller.
While Trubisky isn’t expected to dominate early on, even just getting a taste of starting in the NFL could mean surpassing two starts in his rookie year.
Why Trubisky Will Not Have More Than 1.5 Starts In The 2017-18 Regular Season
Trubisky famously only started one season of college football, and while he certainly looks like a talented player, the Bears should be patient with him. Even if an injury happens to Glennon, the Bears may realize that Trubisky would be better served to remain on the bench.
That could seal his fate early on if the Bears are determined not to start their rookie. Furthermore, Glennon has talent and may be able to help turn around the team. If Chicago can simply remain near .500 for much of the season, there won’t be any reason to turn to Trubisky.
There are a lot of variables involved that point to Glennon remaining the quarterback throughout the season. Even though Trubisky was a high draft pick, he is a raw player who needs some fine-tuning. It makes sense for Chicago to bring him along slowly, which would result in the “under” being the correct choice when it comes to his amount of regular season starts in the 2017-18 regular season.
