NFL Betting Online: Few would argue the Jacksonville Jaguars are on the right path back to respectability, but the jury’s out if it will happen this season. The Jaguars are coming off a 5-11 season but had some bright spots offensively and have added several key pieces through the draft and free agency. Oddsmakers don’t envision such a stark turnaround that Jacksonville advances to the postseason, although it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility. The Jaguars are listed at +175 to make the playoffs, with their odds to miss it set at -215 in NFL wagering.

The Jaguars have been among the worst teams in the NFL for a number of years, but finally the arrow seems to be pointing up. The offense was 14th in the NFL a season ago, averaging 23.5 points per game, and boasts a passing game that showed potential. Quarterback Blake Bortles finished the 2015 season throwing for 4,428 yards with 35 touchdowns, but also tossed 18 interceptions. His main target was Allen Robinson, who caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns at a sparkling 17.5 yards per reception. Allen Hurns added 64 catches for 1,031 yards and 10 scores. The running game wasn’t as productive but is has been upgraded with the free agent addition of Chris Ivory, who should help balance out the group and not put Bortles in as many tough spots. He is a former top-five pick who has progressed nicely early in his career and could be on the precipice of a real breakout season.

The defense is a bigger work in progress. The Jaguars gave up 28 points per game a year ago, which was second-to-last in the NFL. Davon House had a pretty good season on the back end with 49 tackles and four interceptions, but the pass rush wasn’t very effective. Many reinforcements have been brought in, as the defense isn’t likely to look very similar to 2015. Defensive tackle Malik Jackson was signed to a lucrative free-agent contract, while cornerback Prince Amukamara and safety Tashaun Gipson were brought into shore up the secondary. The Jaguars went heavy on defense early in the draft, grabbing versatile safety Jalen Ramsey in the first round and Myles Jack, a potential star at linebacker who has knee issues, in the second. Additionally, the Jaguars will get their 2015 first-round choice, Dante Fowler, back after he missed all of his rookie year due to injury. His presence should help beef up the pass rush.

Since the Jaguars only won five games a season ago it is tough to pencil them in for double-digits, but the talent has unquestionably been upgraded. Their division isn’t very tough, so 10 wins could very well win it. Jacksonville would love to buck the odds and make it to the playoffs, and they have one of the more intriguing rosters in the NFL heading into 2016 in NFL wagering.
