NFL Betting Online: The New York Giants have one or the more dynamic offenses in the NFL behind the quarterback-wide receiver duo of Eli Manning and Odell Beckham, and some key pickups on defense have the team poised to improve. Despite going just 6-10 a year ago, the Giants’ odds for making the playoffs in 2016 are set at even, with the chances of them missing it just slightly better at -130 in NFL wagering.
The Giants scored an average of 26.3 points per game a season ago, so the offense wasn’t the issue. Manning finished the season throwing for 4,436 yards and 35 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. Beckham, one of the most talented receivers in the NFL, had 96 catches for 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns. Rueben Randle left in free agency, so the new second target could be rookie Sterling Shepard, unless Victor Cruz can return to form after battling serious injuries the past couple of seasons. The running game isn’t expected to be very good but the passing game should pick up the slack.
The Giants’ season will likely be decided on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Prince Amukamara departs, as does defensive end Robert Ayers, but the Giants brought in some big-time reinforcements. Defensive end Olivier Vernon was signed to a lucrative free agent contract, as was cornerback Janoris Jenkins. Defensive tackle Damon Harrison will help plug the middle, while Jason Pierre-Paul was re-signed and will aim to have a bigger impact after last season was a lost cause after a fireworks accident forced the amputation of his fingers. The Giants were just 30th in the NFL in scoring defense a season ago but hope to be much improved with so many key players added to the fold.
The Washington Redskins won the NFC East a season ago, but the Giants’ biggest competition in the division in 2016 is expected to be the Dallas Cowboys, who get back quarterback Tony Romo and hope to get a full season from star receiver Dez Bryant. The Giants and Cowboys could very well be battling it out for divisional supremacy, with the loser needing to battle for a wild card berth.
It will be interesting to see of the Giants can bounce back after a six-win season under new coach Ben McAdoo and make a trip to the playoffs in NFL wagering.
