Week 1 of the 2015-16 NFL season is finally here! While pointspread and total bettors rejoice, daily fantasy football players are still fine tuning their lineups in hopes of winning a life changing tournament.
With more season long fantasy players now more in tune with DFS, it’s going to be harder than ever to formulate that once in a lifetime lineup.
The players listed below will make a solid foundation for a roster to get you in the money, but you’ll need to put in the work to figure out the rest.
QB
Matt Ryan – The Falcons are first up on the docket for Chip Kelly’s Eagles who would love nothing more than to turn this game into a shootout knowing full well they possess an offense that can match points like no other. However, the Eagles defense surrendered the third most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks last season, and “Matty Ice” just so happens to have Julio Jones to seek out in this one, and is playing at home where he’s thrived throughout his career.
Sam Bradford – With most DFS sites posting their salaries at the beginning of the preseason, Philly’s field general was able to slip through the cracks from a salary perspective. You will not be able to roster him this cheap come Week 2, especially after he rips apart a Falcons secondary that ranked No. 24 versus opposing QBs last season.
RB
LeSean McCoy – Rex Ryan loves to run the football. He now has a new toy to play with in the form of “Shady” McCoy who was shipped off to Buffalo in the offseason. Though the tail end of his career in the City of Brotherly Love didn’t pan out, McCoy still has some tread on his tires and he’s gonna be run into the ground in this one in hopes of keeping Andrew Luck and company on the sidelines for a majority of the game. Indy ranked in the bottom third of the league defending running backs last season, so a solid fantasy showing is certainly in the offing in his Buffalo debut.
Doug Martin – The “Muscle Hamster” has fallen off in recent seasons, but he looked to be reinvigorated throughout the preseason in games against the Bengals and Browns; two of the worst run defenses in the league a year ago. Tennessee just so happens to own a pathetic run “D” as well. When you pair that with Lovie Smith looking to keep his rookie quarterback out of harm’s way in his professional debut, you have a winning equation for a running back going dirt cheap that you can add to any GPP roster.
WR
Julio Jones – The Falcons premiere pass catcher is the most expensive wide receiver to roster at most fantasy sites in Week 1. There’s a good reason why; only Atlanta surrendered more fantasy points to WRs last season and JJ is headed towards a huge season now in his fifth year in the league. He already owns a stat line of 5 catches for 123 yards and a score against the Eagles, and even more is expected this time around. Make sure Mr. Jones is locked into a bulk of your cash game lineups since he’ll likely be a top 3 WR this week.
Jarvis Landry – Miami went out and made some huge additions to its offense this past offseason that will only allow for Ryan Tannehill to flourish now in his fourth year leading the Fins’ charge. Landry was one of his favorite targets a season ago in reeling in 84 passes for 758 yards and 5 TDs. He was targeted more than any receiver in the preseason with the starting offense on the field, and he’ll be running up against a beleaguered Washington secondary that was abused by wide receivers throughout all of last season. He’s got WR1 upside but you only have to pay a WR2 price – roster him in your GPPs!
Best of luck with all your Week 1 DFS action – now go make that paper!
