NFL Week 12 Odds - Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs Game Preview

Bills-at-Chiefs-Nov26

Two teams in the thick of the AFC playoff picture hook up in a huge game. The Chiefs are riding a four-game winning streak and have looked like the best team in the AFC during the run. On a short week and playing their third consecutive road game in a notoriously loud environment, the Bills face a stiff test.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The Chiefs have been a solid play on the field and at the betting window lately going 4-0 SU and ATS in their last four. The line was wagered a full point to Kansas City -6.5 while the total dipped a half-point.

KEY INJURIES

John Miller – Buffalo’s starting right guard is out indefinitely with a high left ankle sprain sustained in Monday’s game. Kraig Urbik is the likely candidate to take over as the starter.

Mario Williams – Skipped practice this week after injuring his foot on Monday night, making his status for this week uncertain. Alex Carrington could fill in at the Bills’ left defensive end spot.

Charcandrick West – Hurt his hamstring against San Diego last week and is questionable to play on Sunday. The Chiefs’ running back, who took over when Jamaal Charles went down with a torn ACL, would be replaced by Spencer Ware.

KEY MISMATCH

Kansas City might be the hottest team in the NFL and has shined on both sides of the ball, outscoring opponents 130-39 during its four-game winning streak. The Chiefs have allowed an average of 12.2 points in the last six games after giving up 31.3 in the first four. In last Sunday’s rout of San Diego, the Chiefs allowed fewer than 300 total yards for a third straight game with a season-low 201. They also scored a touchdown. Quarterback Alex Smith has not thrown an interception in a franchise record 253 pass attempts and just about anybody can carry the ball effectively for them. West ran for 276 yards and three touchdowns – and caught nine passes for 136 yards and another score – during the three-game stretch to start the win streak. After he went down with a hamstring injury last week, Spencer Ware ran 11 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns. So, even though the Chiefs are without their biggest offense talent in Charles, they are still grinding out more than 120 yards per game.

KEY STAT

25.7 – Kansas City’s points per game average. The Chiefs rank sixth in the NFL and have scored an average of 32.5 points during their four-game winning streak. The Bills surrender 22.7 points per game to rank 14th in the league.

BETTING ANGLE

Kansas City has yet to lose since the five-game skid that appeared to end its season before it really started. And even a season-ending knee injury to star running back Jamaal Charles in Week 5 couldn’t keep the Chiefs from regrouping and successfully pressing on. Not only have the Chiefs clawed their way back to .500, they own the final wild-card spot in the AFC. Now Kansas City is in position to join the 1970 Bengals as the only teams to make the playoffs after starting 1-5. None of its final six opponents have winning records and four of those six will be at home. Like Kansas City, Buffalo is among five AFC teams at 5-5, but is behind the Chiefs and Houston in the standings because those two have better records within the conference.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

The Bills took a beating last week and still had a chance at pulling off the upset at New England. Unfortunately, Buffalo blew its wad in that game in an attempt by coach Rex Ryan to finally knock off the world champs. The Chiefs have been on fire lately and all phases of the game have contributed. The offense is efficient behind Smith, though lacking the big play, and has done nothing to hurt the Chiefs chances. Led by pass rushers Justin Houston and Tamba Hali, the defense is stifling and harassing. Heck, even special teams is playing its best ball of the year. Punter Dustin Colquitt was named Special Teams Player of the Week. Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor injured his shoulder last week and was limited in practice. If he can’t go, the Bills chances diminish significantly. But they aren’t going to win even if he does play.
