NFL Week 13 Odds - Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans Game Preview

2015-Jags-at-Titans-Betting-Online

Tennessee will try again to end its home losing streak after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last week. The Titans extended their home skid to 11 straight and meet the Jaguars for the second time in three NFL weeks. The good news is the Titans’ last win at Nissan Stadium was against the Jags. The bad news is they’re 1-8-1 ATS in the last 10 against them.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Though the line was wagered to Tennessee -2.5, the trends aren’t working in the Titans’ favor. They’ve lost 11 straight at home and are just 1-9 ATS in their last 10 against the division. The total spiked a half point to 43.5.

KEY INJURIES

Allen Hurns – The Jaguars aren’t ruling out their star receiver playing Sunday because of the concussion he suffered last week, but he is doubtful to play. He was stretchered off the field and entered the league’s concussion program. If he doesn't recover in time to play Sunday, Marqise Lee would see an increased workload.

Derrick Morgan – Continues to mend from a shoulder injury and is questionable to play on Sunday. Tennessee’s stud linebacker missed the last two games and still has 4.5 sacks. David Bass has been starting in his place.

KEY MISMATCH

Julius Thomas and Blake Bortles are starting to develop a rapport. Thomas caught nine passes for 116 yards and a touchdown last week. It was the fourth 100-yard game of his career and tied his career high for receptions. It also was the second consecutive week Thomas scored. He had the game-winning catch against Tennessee two weeks ago and the one that got the Jaguars back in the game against the Chargers. Five of his nine receptions against San Diego went for first downs, with two coming on third down and the touchdown capping a fourth-and-7 play. Thomas broke a bone in the back of his right hand in the preseason opener and sat out the final three exhibition games and the first four regular season games, missing a chunk of time that probably would have helped build a bond with Bortles. And even when he returned, he was rusty. But he's rounding into form now, with 29 receptions for 283 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. The Jaguars might need to rely more on Thomas this week with Hurns likely missing the game. The next step in their relationship could be to make Thomas the top target in the red zone. The Jaguars have scored just five touchdowns in their last 18 trips inside the 20-yard line.

KEY STAT

41.7 – Jacksonville’s red zone touchdown percentage to rank 30th in the NFL. The Jags also allow opponents to score touchdowns on a league-high 67.6 percent of red zone possessions.

BETTING ANGLE

The Titans are presented with a wonderful opportunity to end their historic home losing streak. Tennessee took a late lead against Oakland last week after trailing by 11, but lost 24-21 in controversial fashion. It was the Titans’ 11th straight loss at Nissan Stadium, tied for the third-longest ever. The record is 14 in a row. Tennessee’s most recent home victory was 16-14 over Jacksonville last Oct. 12. The Titans and Jags meet for the second time in three weeks. And while the quick divisional rematches are a buzz kill for fans, facing the same opponent in short order comes with advantages regarding preparation for coaches. The Jags won the first meeting 19-13, but the Titans had their chances. Since Mike Mularkey took over as interim coach and put a premium on protecting Marcus Mariota, the Titans have fared pretty well. Their worst game of the four was in Jacksonville when they allowed a poor pass rushing team to take down their quarterback four times. The O-line needs to be better to enhance their chances.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

Seeing future star quarterbacks Blake Bortles and Marcus Mariota play makes this an intriguing battle. And the conditions should be better than what they were in Jacksonville when the teams met on Nov. 19, making the over a solid play on a manageable total. The more games the Titans lose at home, they harder it becomes for them to get a win. And they got no help from the officials last week in a controversial loss to Oakland. They might get some make-up calls this week, but not enough to overcome a sluggish offense. Bortles found his security blanket in All-Pro tight end Thomas and the Jags can move the football. I like the Jags to get the W, assuming Bortles has reacquainted himself with the line of scrimmage.
