The battle for New York will take place in New Jersey. The Jets and Giants will be out to ruin each other’s season and the winner will likely do just that in a huge game between two mediocre teams. The Jets are back in the AFC wild card picture after knocking off the Dolphins and don’t have to travel for this ‘road’ game.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The line was wagered from a toss-up to the Jets -1 in a flash after the G-Men looked bad last week and the Jets smothered the Dolphins. We can’t give the Giants anything for homefield advantage since both teams play at MetLife Stadium, but the Jets are 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS in games there.
KEY INJURIES
Marcus Williams – Was knocked out of last week’s game with a knee injury and is day-to-day according to Jets’ coach Todd Bowles. Williams started at cornerback in place of Darrelle Revis, who was sidelined with a concussion.
Geoff Schwartz – The Giants starting left guard suffered a fractured lower leg and is out indefinitely, leaving them thin on the O-line. Starters Justin Pugh and Weston Richburg didn’t play last week and are questionable to return against the Jets.
KEY MISMATCH
Odell Beckham Jr. is clearly the best player on the field when the Giants play, and he was one of a few bright spots last week. Beckham Jr. was targeted on 35.3 percent of Eli Manning’s throws and made nine catches for 142 yards, including a sparkling, diving 21-yard touchdown catch that cut New York’s deficit to seven points in the fourth quarter. Washington’s secondary contested a lot more balls than the Giants expected them to, but Beckham Jr. was able to make his plays nonetheless. He eclipsed 100 yards receiving for the fourth straight game and sixth overall while hauling in his ninth touchdown. The Jets secondary could be shorthanded with cornerback Marcus Williams leaving last Sunday’s game with a knee injury. Williams started in place of the concussed Darrelle Revis, and his absence would be a big blow to absorb for the Jets, who have nobody else with his nose for the ball in the defensive backfield.
KEY STAT
39.6 – The Jets’ third-down conversion percentage. They face a Giants defense that ranks last in the NFL in stopping drives on third down.
BETTING ANGLE
The Giants are a miserable 5-6 after they couldn’t build on a strong performance in a one-point loss to the Patriots two weeks ago, couldn’t take advantage coming out of their bye week, and couldn’t beat a Washington team that lost 44-16 last week in Carolina. Instead of holding a two-game lead and the tie-breaker on Washington with a season sweep, the Giants are falling apart as they embark on what could be Tom Coughlin’s final five games as coach. If the Giants miss the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, management could be placed in the uncomfortable position of asking Coughlin to leave. Even so, Jets-Giants games, which happen every year in the preseason, every four years in the regular season and never in the postseason, are always compelling.
ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION
Two desperate teams in the battle for New York makes for an intriguing matchup. The Giants blew a chance to take control of the NFC East with a loss at Washington last week while the Jets improved their standing in the AFC playoff picture with a home win over the Dolphins. In an odd scenario, the Jets won’t have to travel for this road game as the football team’s share the same venue. That could be a slight edge in a game that opened as a toss-up. Another edge is the Jets defense, which shut down Miami’s run game last week. The Giants couldn’t generate anything on the ground against Washington so look for Eli to again go to the air. He was picked off three times by the Skins, but two of those should have been caught by his receivers. Beckham Jr. voiced his displeasure over the Giants’ performance following the loss and as the only player who showed up, he had a right to speak up. I expect his teammates will show up better prepared to play against the Jets, but a broken down offensive line against a strong Jets front is disaster.
