NFL Week 2 DFS Report

Week2_DFS_Report-Sept17

So we knocked it out of the park with our quarterback and wide receiver calls last week with all four producing solid fantasy stats to give your DFS lineups a solid foundation to build upon.

We didn’t do so good in the running back department and hope to make amends in Week 2.

The players listed below will help get you in the money, but you’ll need to put the work in to have a shot at finishing in the green.

QB

Aaron Rodgers – The Packers still feel as if they gave one away at Seattle in the playoffs last season. They’ll take the field in the Sunday nighter looking to put an end to a three game losing streak to the Seahawks. With Aaron Rodgers set to square off against a much less potent “Legion of Boom” secondary that conceded nearly 300 yards and 1 TD to Nick Foles last week, it’s pretty safe to expect him to still produce value even though he’s Week 2’s most expensive quarterback. He’s a set it and forget it QB1 in cash games.

Jameis Winston– The top pick in this past year’s draft won’t likely be any lower than what it is heading into the Bucs Week 2 match-up with the division rival Saints. Heck, RG III is more expensive and he’s riding the pine! Even though his first professional pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown, the former Seminole was still able to throw for 210 yards and two touchdowns. This week, he’ll have Mike Evans back at his disposal, and he’ll also be running up against a Saints defense that allowed Carson Palmer to light it up for over 300 yards and 3 TDs. Take a flier on the rookie in GPPs only.

RB

Marshawn Lynch – Beast Mode was anything but last week in St. Louis where he was held in check to the tune of 73 yards on 18 carries. The Rams always play him tough being a division rival, but Marshawn should see the sledding being much easier this week versus a Packers rush defense that was gouged by Matt Forte for 141 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Green Bay’s rush defense ranked out second to last in 2014, and it doesn’t look as if it’s gotten any better through one week of play.

Chris Ivory – I had Ivory targeted in my season-long fantasy draft and was thrilled to snag him in the eighth round. Provided he stays relatively healthy, something he wasn’t able to do up until last season, I truly believe he has the power and speed to be a fringe RB1 this season. Luckily for us, DFS sites aren’t of the same belief since his salary remains very affordable even though he just went for 91 yards and 2 TDs. Indianapolis sported a below average run defense a year ago, and just allowed the Bills to rip them for 147 yards. Until his salary loses value, plug him in your GPP lineups with reckless abandon.

WR

Calvin Johnson – Megatron was targeted a grand total of four times in last week’s tough 33-28 loss to San Diego. Now I get that the Lions lost the time of possession battle by nearly 20 minutes, but how the heck does one of the league’s most dominant receivers only get looked at by his quarterback four times? Yes Minnesota has a much better pass than run defense, but the leader of the Decepticons is going to be force fed the pigskin in Week 2 which should lead to a top 5 wide receiver showing. Allow Calvin to help you win your cash games this week.

Brandin Cooks – The Buccaneers just allowed rookie Marcus Mariota to rip them apart for 4 TDs and 209 yards on 13-of-16 passing. Drew Brees has thrown for 281, 371, 381 and 322 yards against the Bucs the last four times he faced them. Cooks was largely disappointing in his 2015 debut last week, but he had the bigger Patrick Peterson blanketing him all game. A similar receiver in stature – Kendall Hunter – went hog wild on the Bucs last week catching all four of his targets for 101 yards and a score. This looks to be the week Cooks hooks those that took a flyer on him in the first six rounds, and he should confidently be drafted as a WR1 on your GPP rosters.
