Three of our six overall picks turned out to be great calls last week, while the other three stunk. Only seeing it halfway doesn’t get it done when it comes to DFS. Really surprised Beast Mode got shut down by the Packers. That’s how it goes in the NFL sometimes. Still, we press on.
The players listed below will help get you in the money, but you’ll need to put the work in to have a shot at finishing in the green in Week 3.
QB
Cam Newton – For my cash game lineups this week, I’m looking at Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill, and Cam Newton. Wilson kind of scares me away due to the game possibly turning into a blowout and Seattle going to the ground game in the second half. Buffalo has given up ample fantasy points to quarterbacks thus far, but Tannehill isn’t cut from the same cloth as Luck or Brady. I like the dual-threat nature of Cam who can hurt the Saints with both his arm and his legs. New Orleans has conceded the second most fantasy points to QBs to date, and have allowed four passing scores through the first two weeks.
Nick Foles – The Rams field general has a juicy matchup this week against the Steelers porous secondary. Pittsburgh has given up 6 TDs through the air, and the Rams offense looked much better in the comforts of its dome Week 1 than it did last week in Washington. Foles is one of the cheapest QBs on the board, so look to pair him up with Jared Cook for a dynamic 1-2 punch in GPPs since Pittsburgh hasn’t been able to stop opposing tight ends either.
RB
Jamal Charles – Here I go picking on the Packers run defense once again. They’re not going to fool me again! Green Bay was amped for that revenge bout on Sunday night with Seattle. I expect a return to normalcy here. Though Charles had a solid game last week against the Broncos, he was one of the main reasons why KC ended up losing due to his severe case of fumbilitis. A stat line reminiscent of what Matt Forte did to Green Bay’s defense in Week 1 is to be expected.
C.J. Anderson – This guy has killed his season-long backers who took him in the first two rounds the last two weeks, but Denver’s bell cow will figure things out sooner rather than later. He had tough matchups the first two weeks against Baltimore and Kansas City, and went up against those strong run defenses with an ailing foot. Detroit has given up the most TDs to opposing running backs to date. While they’re giving up the fewest yards per carry, the Lions are getting killed on screens and dump offs out of the backfield. Go with either Anderson or Hillman in GPPs to do some damage at a reduced salary.
WR
A.J. Green – While Cincy will no doubt utilize its ground attack since it’s a run first team, the key to getting the best of the Ravens’ defense is through the air with it allowing 250.5 yards per game and 3 TD passes. Green combined for 12 receptions, 212 yards and 2 TDs against Baltimore when he was healthy back in 2013. David Carr and a rookie wide receiver torched the Ravens secondary last week, so there’s no reason to think a Cincy offense more familiar with what their division rival like to do defensively won’t experience that same type of success.
Allen Robinson – I had this kid targeted as a must grab in my season-long league thinking he’d be able to build off his output before getting injured last season. He put forth a dud in Week 1, but man did he make up for it the following week by reeling in six catches for 155 yards and scoring a pair of TDs. New England has been forced to put a ton of points on the board due to the defenses inability to keep the opposition out of the end zone. The Jags are getting a ton of points in a game with one of the highest point totals on the board. His DFS salary is extremely affordable making him a solid addition to any GPP lineup.
Best of luck with all your Week 3 DFS action – make that paper!
