GAME OF THE WEEK
In a week with a lot of non-conference clashes, it's the game between Pittsburgh and St. Louis we are keying in on. The Steelers and the Rams are both 1-1 teams which could have their seasons altered by what goes down on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Ben Roethlisberger and his offense have been fantastic thus far this season, posting over 450 yards per game, and help is clearly on the way. Le'Veon Bell's suspension is officially over with, though it should be noted that DeAngelo Williams played excellent ball in his absence, rumbling for over 100 yards against the Patriots then scoring three touchdowns against the 49ers.
However, if there is a problem with these Steelers, it's that they aren't great along the offensive line. That's really bad news against the best defensive line in football. The Rams have caused chaos to opposing offensive lines this year, and they have played significantly better ball defensively than their numbers suggest.
There's a big difference for both of these teams, particularly in divisions with such great teams around them, between being 1-2 and 2-1, and it'll be tough for the losing team to get back on the horse in this one. It's clearly the most intriguing matchup, if nothing else, in Week 3.
WEEK 3 NFL ODDS NOTES
-Three games are still off the board due to quarterback question marks. Matt Stafford has been through all sorts of minor injuries, the latest of which is to his ribs and chest, which is why the Lions and Broncos are off the board. The Cowboys won't have Tony Romo for the next two months thanks to a broken collarbone, leaving their game off the board against Atlanta. Jay Cutler hurt his hamstring and missed the end of last week's game, leaving him questionable for this game for the Bears against the Seahawks.
-The Patriots are the biggest favorites of the season to date against the Jaguars at -14. It's the 14th time in the last three seasons in which the Jags have been double-digit underdogs, and they have only won one of those games SU.
-The highest total of the week is set at 48 between the Steelers and the Rams, though we suspect that won't ultimately be the case by the time this one kicks off. It's entirely possible that both of the primetime games on Sunday and Monday, the Broncos and Lions and the Chiefs and Packers could feature totals in the 50s as well.
-For the second straight week, the Texans are featured in the lowest total of the week. Also for the second straight week, that number is set at 41.5. This time though, the opponents are the Buccaneers, who scored Jameis Winston's first career win last week in New Orleans.
-There is only one road favorite on the opening NFL odds in Week 3, that being the Steelers at -2.5 at St. Louis. However, we know that Philadelphia and Indianapolis are both very likely to end up being road favorites as well.
-The Browns are favored by 4.5-points against the Raiders this week, marking the first time since November 16 last season the team was favored by more than a field goal.
-The total in the Saints/Panthers game is set at just 44. The last time New Orleans played in a game with a total below 44.5 was back on November 7, 2010, a game which ironically was played at Carolina.
