NFL Week 4 Opening Odds Report

2015-NFL-Week4-Opening-Odds-Report

The Oakland Raiders are 2-1, every team in the AFC South is 1-2, and the Baltimore Ravens are 0-3. That's just the type of world we're in right now in the NFL, and that makes Week 4 yet another unpredictable one ahead for bettors.

GAME OF THE WEEK

The AFC North all of a sudden really looks like it could be turning into a runaway in a hurry depending upon the results of Ben Roethlisberger's knee injury. The Pittsburgh quarterback was hurt last week in St. Louis after getting sacked, and odds have it, he's going to miss at least a month, if not the rest of the season depending upon what his MRI says on Monday.

That said, the Steelers have to continue to forge forward with Michael Vick. There couldn't be a worse time to have a Thursday night game, though.

Pittsburgh is going to have just three days to get Vick ready to start on Thursday night against a ferocious defense which already has a pair of touchdowns this season. Remember that Vick was only signed in the middle of the preseason, so we know he can't quite have full command of this offense yet.

That could play right into the hands of the Ravens, who are clearly in must-win territory now after starting at 0-3. No team since 1998 has ever started at 0-3 and made the playoffs, but the schedule in front of Baltimore is still conducive to a turnaround, but it has to start right now.

These two rivals hate each other, and Pittsburgh, even without Big Ben in the fold, would love to do nothing more than bury the Ravens to kick off October.

The Steelers though, are +2.5 at home in this game along with a modest total of 43.5.

WEEK 4 NFL ODDS NOTES

-A whopping five teams are road favorites already, and we know there will be at least one, if not at least two more. Green Bay will surely be favored at San Francisco when that betting line opens up, while Dallas very well could be favored at New Orleans if Drew Brees sits for a second straight week. So far this season, home underdogs are 8-6 ATS, but it should be noted that three was only one home underdog in Week 3, that being Tennessee, which covered but didn't win against Indianapolis.

-Though both Seattle and Green Bay both have the potential to be double-digit favorites as well, as of Sunday night, the only double-digit favorite that opened on the board was San Diego at -10 against the Browns. It should be noted though, that the Chargers were immediately bet down to -7.5, making it entirely possible that there isn't a double-digit favorite this week in the NFL.

-The highest total of the week is set at 48 in the Giants/Bills game. It's an odd game to think of as the highest total of the week, but the Bills have quietly scored 27, 32 and 41 points in three games with Tyrod Taylor under center. Two of those three games pushed past the total, and the Week 1 game against Indianapolis was only a field goal shy of the mark.

-The lowest total in Week 4 opened at just 40. It's the second straight week the Bucs have been involved in the lowest total on the board, but it's tough to say it isn't deserving after a 19-9 snooze-fest against Houston. This time around, the Buccaneers will play Carolina.

-The Raiders are favored at -2 in Chicago this weekend. Let's keep in mind that they only just won their first road game since the middle of 2013 last week in Cleveland. Oakland has gone 24 consecutive games without being favored, and the last time it was favored on the road was on September 16, 2012, a game in which it was pummeled by Miami 35-13.
