GAME OF THE WEEK

Clearly, the Seattle/Cincinnati game is going to be the biggest one of the weekend, but with the Seahawks playing on Monday Night Football, no spread for that game has been posted as of yet. Instead, we'll take a look at the Rams/Packers game, one which could end up being a lot closer than this point spread suggests.

Yes, the Packers have been the best team in the NFL this year outside of maybe New England (and that's debatable), and yes, they are at home. However, Arizona might have a Top 5 team as well, and it was beaten at home by this very same St. Louis team as well last week.

The Rams have an awesome defensive line, the likes of which could frustrate Aaron Rodgers and this passing attack, particularly if more wide receivers are banged up. Remember that Jordy Nelson is out for the season, while Randall Cobb, in spite of the fact that he finished playing the game, had his arm at his side virtually the entire game, and Davante Adams has been banged up as well.

A spread of 10.5 almost feels a little too high, and perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that in the very first hour these spreads have been posted, that number has dipped to 9.5.

WEEK 5 NFL ODDS NOTES

-Thursday night's Indianapolis/Houston game probably is going to be the last game to hit the board this week, and bettors will have the shortest amount of time to make a decision on it. Oddsmakers were burned last week by the Colts when Andrew Luck was inactive with a hamstring problem. It's anyone's guess whether Luck will or will not play on Thursday on a short week. Meanwhile in Houston, the Texans probably have more quarterback controversy after Brian Hoyer led the team to three touchdowns after Ryan Mallett was shut out for two and a half quarters in Atlanta in Week 4.

-The biggest opening point spread of the week was the -10.5 for the Packers in favor of the Rams. However, as of the publication of this article on Sunday night, the Chiefs are actually the biggest favorites at -10 against the Bears. It's not often you see a team with a losing record favored by double-digits, but it's a testament to just how bad Chicago is and just how much better Kansas City might be than its 1-3 record suggests.

-The Broncos are still undefeated, and it shouldn't be surprising that they are the biggest road favorites of the weekend at -5.5 in Oakland. The Raiders might be just a few inches shy of being 3-1 right now, but they certainly aren't in Denver's class at this point.

-The Giants have been favored by more than 3.5 points just once since November 2013. They're laying seven to open up the week against the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.

-The highest total of the week is at 47.5 between the Packers and the Rams. If this is approximately where this spread goes off at, it will be the fifth time this season Green Bay has had a total between 47 and 49.

-The lowest total of the week has opened at 43 between the 49ers and the Giants. That really shouldn't be all that much of a surprise considering the fact that San Francisco has scored a total of just 10 points in its last two games and has managed just 12.0 points per game this year.
