NFL Week 9 Opening Odds Report

2015-NFL-Week-9-Opening-Odds-Report

There are two divisions in the NFL which don't have a single team above .500 at the halfway point of the year.

Week 9 is going to prove to be a week of separation for a lot of these really tight divisional races, making this perhaps the biggest week for NFL bettors of the season.

WEEK 9 NFL OPENING ODDS

GAME OF THE WEEK

Many are going under the assumption that the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC is going to go through Lambeau Field, but the Panthers might have something to say about that. The Packers are actually going to Charlotte next weekend off of their bye, making this one of the best games of the year.

The Packers are going to be favored in this one, though we're not all that sure by what margin since the game is still off the board with Green Bay playing on Sunday Night Football and Carolina playing on Monday Night Football.

With Atlanta now losing two games in a row and starting to look mortal and Arizona with already two losses under its belt and a horribly hard schedule coming down the stretch, the Packers could basically clinch the top seed in the NFC with a win in this game (though it should be noted that Minnesota is quietly sitting at 5-2). The Panthers are in a tough spot in this one, knowing that they have to play on a short week, but the Bank of America Field crowd should be rocking and rolling.

WEEK 9 NFL ODDS NOTES

-The Patriots are not just the biggest favorites of the week, but they're the biggest favorites we've seen all year long. That's not really a surprise considering the fact that New England has just been mauling teams for the most part, especially against a Washington team which is perceived to be one of the worst in the league. That said, the Redskins are right in the thick of the fight in the NFC East, and they're coming off of their bye week. The Pats are -13.5, and we can't see anything but this line going up over the course of the week.

-There are only three road favorites listed on the Week 9 docket at this point, though both Denver and Green Bay could be added to that list by the time the betting lines come out. The biggest favorite on the road of the bunch is Atlanta, which has opened at -3 against the 49ers. With the Falcons playing suspect ball these last couple weeks, this might be a spot for the Niners to get a win against a playoff-contending team.

-The highest over/under of the week is 52, though there were a pair of games which had that betting line as of Sunday night. The Bears and Chargers on Monday Night Football had that awfully high total, but almost immediately, that number came down to 50. Meanwhile, the Redskins and Patriots also have a 52 hanging on the board, and as we stated earlier, with the way the Brady Bunch is going, we can only see that number going up.

-The lowest total of the week is just 40 between the Rams and the Vikings. That game, in and of itself, would be the best game on a lot of other dockets. Two of the best running backs in the league will be on display with Todd Gurley and Adrian Peterson, and that, parlayed with some really aggressive defenses are why this total is so low.

-Cincinnati is the only team left in the NFL without an ATS defeat. The Bengals are 6-0-1 ATS and 7-0 SU thus far this year, but believe it or not, they haven't been favored by more than 3.5 points in any game they've played thus far this year. That'll change against the Browns when they're laying 10.5.
