NFL Week 9 Opening Odds Report

NFL-Week-9-Opening-Odds-Report-bm

In a week where six teams are on bye, five teams are going to be favored on the road.

There are some tremendous matchups that are left to be digested, and without a single game with spread of more than seven this week, you can bet that the Week 9 odds are going to be awfully tight.

Games of the Week

Steelers at Ravens – Sunday 1 p.m. ET

The Steelers and Ravens both had a bye in Week 8, and that bye couldn't have come at a better time for each. Both teams have been beaten up with injuries, and getting that extra week to get some guys back in the saddle will really help both sides.

One man that isn't expected to be back is Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben is out with a meniscus injury he suffered a couple weeks ago in Miami, and though he wanted to play for this game, early on, it doesn't sound like he's going to be ready to go.

That's why the Ravens are ultimately going to be favored in this game at -3 even though they are playing awful football. Baltimore has been beaten in four games in a row after starting 3-0, and losing this game to Landry Jones at home will probably end up being the death knell to this club's season. If Pittsburgh can win this one, it'll be in a spot to really put away this division not far after the halfway point of the campaign.

Broncos at Raiders – Sunday 8:30 p.m. ET

Three straight Sunday Night Football Games have gone to overtime. Will the Raiders and Broncos follow suit?

These two teams have been fantastic this season and both 6-2. The winner of this game will not only have the inside edge when it comes to the AFC West, but it'll end up being the No. 2 seed in the AFC behind New England at 6-1 for the time being.

This could end up being a coming out party for Derek Carr and this Oakland offense. The Raiders survived the most penalties in the history of the NFL last week against the Bucs. It's a sign that they're still immature, but to be able to survive that on the road while Carr threw for over 500 yards was a big moment for Jack Del Rio's team.

But this is a different game against the Broncos. This Denver defense is legit, forcing gobs of turnovers and taking advantage of poor offensive lines. The Raiders haven't done a great job protecting Carr ( at least not legally ), and with DeMarcus Ware back from injury, getting him off the edge with Shane Ray and Von Miller is a dangerous combination.

And what disrespect here by the oddsmakers! The Raiders are at home and are playing some of the best football they've played in decades, yet they're underdogs in this one at +2.5. The early betting action has been on Oakland every step of the way to push this spread to a pick 'em, and we'll see if the Raiders end up closing as favorites.
