2016-NFL-Titans-at-Dolphins-Betting-Odds

The Miami Dolphins and the Tennessee Dolphins are both off to a 2-1 start this preseason but only one team will finish with a winning record as the two square off this Thursday in a Week 4 matchup. Miami will rotate its bottom two quarterbacks in this contest while the Titans could have a quarterback battle for the second spot as Matt Cassel has struggled a bit this preseason while Alex Tanney has impressed. Fans should not expect to see the starters for either team in this one in NFL betting.

Kickoff for this preseason season Week 4 game is set for Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 7 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium.

Odds Analysis

Both teams come into this matchup with the same record and this one could very well be a toss-up. While Miami has home field advantage in this one, the Titans have a lot more experience in backup quarterback Cassel and have seen a hunger in third-stringer Tanney.

Quarterback Rotation

With the starters out for this Week 4 preseason matchup, Cassel could see time against the Dolphins this week with Tanney likely seeing time as well. Cassel was just 2-of-3 for 16 yards last week, coming in after starter Marcus Mariota.

Thus far this preseason, Cassel has completed 10 of 15 passes for 109 yards with an interception. Tanney is 20-of-29 for 189 yards and a touchdown in his first three preseason games. His best performance so far this preseason came in Week 2 against the Panthers when he completed 12-of-17 passes and threw for 103 yards and a touchdown.

With Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill sitting this week and backup Matt Moore out with a concussion, Zac Dysert and rookie Brandon Doughty should split time. Moore threw a single pass in Week 2 against the Cowboys before suffering a minor concussion which knocked him out of the game on August 19th. The team expects him to be ready to go for the first week of the regular season, but he could still be out this week.

Dysert was 6-of-7 for 57 yards this week and has thrown for 117 yards with one touchdown in the first three games of the preseason. Doughty, a seventh round pick in this year’s draft, is 12-for-15 for 87 yards so far this preseason and will definitely be hoping make more of an impact this game. With the top two quarterbacks out, this is an excellent time for Dysert and Doughty to step up and prove their worth.

Coaching History

Dolphins coach Adam Gase is in his first season with Miami this season and is off to a 2-1 start this preseason. The rookie NFL coach was the former offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.

Titans head coach Mike Mularkey is 8-7 all time in the preseason. After going 3-5 in the preseason in his two years as head coach of the Bills, Mularkey achieved his is best preseason record to date in 2012, going 3-1 with Jacksonville in the preseason. The 54-year-old is 2-1 with Titans so far this year.

Free ATS Pick

Cassel has the longest track record of any quarterback in this game, which should give the Titans the advantage if he plays. Additionally, Tanney has looked the best among the signal-callers. The Titans also have some talented rookies on their team, and if players like running back Derrick Henry get any work, it would be an advantage for Tennessee. The Titans should claim this one behind some solid work from their offense.

NFL Odds: Titans 27, Dolphins 14
