So far this year, the oddsmakers have been dead right on the San Francisco 49ers. If the favored team continues to dominate as we have seen thus far out of Niners games, the Denver Broncos could be in for a heck of a night in their home opener of 2015.
ODDS ANALYSIS
The combination of momentum from two road wins, the fact that this is the first home game for Gary Kubiak and the knowledge that the Broncos’ first-teamers should annihilate the first-teamers for the 49ers has lined this spread as the biggest of the weekend.
Denver is favored by five along with a total of 42.5.
QUARTERBACK ROTATION
Gary Kubiak's history suggests that he is going to use his starting quarterback for the entire first half in the third preseason game. That means we could see as many as 20 throws out of Peyton Manning before giving way to Brock Osweiler.
Don't be stunned if Trevor Siemian never gets off of the Denver bench in this clash.
The 49ers' quarterback rotation won't matter if they play the game like they did last week against the Cowboys when they ran it 38 times and threw it just 20 without taking a single real shot down the field the whole game.
However, for those of you taking notes, Jim Tomsula probably will allow Colin Kaepernick to play through at least a quarter and a half, if not a full two quarters before letting Blaine Gabbert and Dylan Thompson do the rest of the work.
COACHES' MOTIVATION
Tomsula just hasn't looked interested at all in the preseason. The 49ers have a grand total of four passing plays which have covered more than nine yards in the entire preseason. San Fran is content to make games as short as possible at this point, and that's why under has easily been the word thus far in the preseason.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We've got a lot of depth on the D-line. I'm very fortunate also because that will help me because I'm not a team where I'm playing 60-70-80 plays, trying to win a ball game. We've got so many talented guys… We've got a great chemistry going." – 49ers defensive lineman Darnell Dockett on th Niners' defensive front seven heading into the season
POSITION BATTLE TO WATCH
By default, we really need to watch out for the 49ers running backs considering the fact that they are going to get the ball so often.
Jarryd Hayne, the converted rugby player is still holding onto his dream of making an NFL roster, but it's still not likely he gets the job done. Rookie Mike Davis and Kendall Hunter will likely get spots on the team in the backfield, while Reggie Bush and Carlos Hyde are obvious locks.
That doesn't make this backfield grouping any less interesting to watch, though.
INJURIES
Both of these teams are relatively healthy entering this game, as there are no new major injuries to report since the start of training camp for either side.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
The Broncos should dominate this game from the get go. We assume that Manning is going to walk down the field and put at least one, if not two touchdowns on the board early, and the romp should be on from there.
The lack of care out of the Niners will be evident from the opening few snaps when there is just no creativity in the offense, and Denver's hometown fans should be treated to a fantastic result in the opener.
