The mass majority of the bets which will be placed on the Super Bowl are going to be on the point spread and the total. However, here at BookMaker Sportsbook, you'll have all sorts of chances to play different point spreads aside from just the widely bet upon lines.
You can find a slew of Super Bowl prop odds at BookMaker.eu.
Though Carolina is set at -5.5 as of the publication of this article, that hasn't been the case all week long. The Panthers were once set at -3.5 and have risen as high as -6, and there's no telling just how high that spread might go.
The Panthers really jumped out on their last three foes dating back to the regular season, leading all three by at least 17 points at halftime. Though they didn't necessarily put their foot on the gas pedal against Seattle in the second half after a 31-0 start in the first half, that hasn't put a damper on anything going on in Charlotte.
Carolina can be had at -10.5 at +175, -14.5 at +291 and at -20.5 at +484.
If you're looking at the history of the Panthers, you'll see a lot of results which indicate they can cover a spread like this one. They absolutely beat down Arizona by 34 in the NFC Championship Game and Tampa Bay by 28 in Week 17. Carolina also has wins by 38 over Atlanta, 19 over Dallas, 28 over Washington and 17 over Tennessee, and all of that only dates back to November 15 when it really started opening up cans of whoop-you-know-what on opponents.
That said, it's incredibly daunting to try to score enough points on these Broncos to cover a spread of this magnitude. In order to cover a spread of 20.5 points, that means you've got to put three touchdowns on the board. The Broncos defense only allowed three touchdowns in three games this season. Sure, the Panthers have scored on defense in each of their first two games in the playoffs, but it's not all that likely that it happens again, and even if it did, the offense would still need to put at least three TDs on the board to cover a spread of more than 10 or so.
It's also worth remembering just how close Super Bowls have been of late. The last time a favorite won a Super Bowl by double digits was back in Super Bowl XLI, and the 12-points the Colts beat the Bears by wouldn't have been enough to cover any of the alternate spreads considering the fact that Peyton Manning's crew was favored by a full touchdown in that game.
However, speaking of Manning, one of the worst displays in Super Bowl history was put on by his Broncos two years ago in this spot. Denver was favored over Seattle, but it was blown out 43-8 in a game which was truly never all that close.
This time around, the numbers are much more reasonable on the Broncos. You can find them at +2.5 at +175, -3.5 at +334 and -6.5 at +460.
BookMaker also has alternate totals for the Super Bowl as well. The number to beat on the regular spread is 45, but there are alternate numbers ranging all the way from 30.5 (over -650/under +500) to 60.5 (over +460/under -600).
For the most part, totals in the Super Bowl have stayed relatively modest of late. You could say that it would be a pretty safe bet that the biggest game of the year will feature at least 31 points. The last time the Super Bowl didn't have at least 31 points combined was back in Super Bowl IX, a 16-6 win for Pittsburgh over Minnesota.
