Atlanta Falcons +3
New England Patriots -3
Over/Under 58.5
Total Receiving Yards for Devonta Freeman
Over 45.5 +115
Under 45.5 -135
The Falcons love to throw the football, as witnessed by their third-ranked passing attack at nearly 300 yards per game during the regular season. More impressive is that the Falcons are over 60 yards per game better during the postseason. That’s plenty of yards to go around and you can bet Jones isn’t going to get all of them. Freeman was the team’s third leading receiver during the regular season but averaged only 28.9 yards per game, which is less than the previous season.
Though he is the featured back, Freeman splits time with Tevin Coleman, which will impact his touches and ability to reach the over in this category. His output on the receiving end has also been affected by the emergence of Taylor Gabriel and getting tight end Austin Hooper back from injury. The wide receiver trio of Jones, Gabriel and Mohamed Sanu accounted for 53 percent of the Falcons yards through the air and Matt Ryan will try to take advantage of mismatches in the Pats secondary. Not only are the Falcons potent through the air, their ground game is one of the best in the NFL and Freeman will do his damage on the ground.
Total Receiving Yards for Mohamed Sanu
Over 48.5 -115
Under 48.5 -115
This sets up as a good matchup for Sanu and the Falcons. Jones will get plenty of attention from the Patriots defense and will surely draw double coverage along the way. In man-to-man schemes Logan Ryan will likely guard Sanu, who will have a four-inch height advantage. In fact, the duo of Jones and Sanu are taller than each of the Pats top secondary players and there will be plenty of jump balls.
But New England has done a nice job defensively all season with its secondary and the Pats put a blanket on Antonio Brown in the AFC Championship Game, though Ben Roethlisberger threw for 314 yards, mostly in an attempt to come back from a large deficit. The Pats have been susceptible in pass defense and Atlanta has a potent passing game, which makes taking the over a trendy pick. However, Sanu has lacked the big play in his arsenal this season with only seven of his 68 receptions going for over 20 yards.
