Tom Brady and Andrew Luck are largely looked at as two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts respectively. With the way things have been going this year, it'd be easy to just blindly suggest that Brady will crush Luck in fantasy betting at BookMaker Sportsbook. We're not sure things will play out that way, though.
Luck has averaged just 18.0 fantasy points per game this year, a horrible number by his own standards. It should be noted that he has been largely unlucky, a fortune which has to turn around at some point. There's no way that Luck is going to continue to have one of the worst quarterback ratings in the NFL for the rest of 2015.
Brady meanwhile, has been the definitive MVP of the league in our eyes. He hasn't thrown a pick yet this year, and he has been as on-point as it gets for a starting quarterback. His average of 32.9 fantasy points per game is flat out awesome.
What makes betting on Brady all the more enticing is the simple fact that New England has dominated in this series since Luck has come into the picture. Four games. Four wins. Four covers. Average yards? 422. Average points? 47.
And yes, it's easy to just assume that Brady is going to want to run up the score against the Colts, knowing that they started this whole "Deflategate" debacle which ruined the entire offseason for NFL fans everywhere.
However, don't lose out on the facts here. Here are Brady's fantasy point tallies from these last four games against Indy: 27.7, 18.3, 7.4, 30.6. As you can tell, the numbers aren't quite as high as you'd probably think. Luck's numbers in those same four games? 3.42, 23.3, 16.1, 19.9. He's beaten Brady outright in two of those four games.
Clearly, Luck is going to be an underdog, and he's probably going to be a big one, too. If you can get more than six points or so, you have to be inclined to give Luck a shot, as he'll probably stay close with Brady more often than not for fantasy purposes.
GRONK TO BE OVERRATED FOR BETTORS, TOO
Rob Gronkowski is a beast. He's going to be amongst the NFL leaders in touchdowns this year, and it's easy to assume that he is going to tear up the Colts in this game.
However, temper your expectations on the almighty Gronk. After scoring three touchdowns in his first game of the year, he has only scored once since then, and he has only had more than five receptions in one of his four games. Yes, Gronkowski can stretch the field like none other, and he has had at least one catch for at least 33 yards in all four of his games, but Brady has had no choice but to target some of his other wide outs in recent games due to the attention the tight end is drawing.
Gronkowski is going to have an over/under of at least 80 yards, and he's going to be favored to score a touchdown in this game by a comfortable margin. It wouldn't be surprising to see him get into the end zone three times and have 150 yards receiving, but when you play the percentages, know that he is going to be held under his totals more often than not on Sunday Night Football against the Colts.
