NFL GAMES OF THE WEEK
Panthers at Broncos, Thursday, September 8, 8:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
The kickoff game to the 2016 season will pit the two Super Bowl contenders against one another. The Denver defense got the best of the Carolina offense in the Super Bowl last season, but there's a really good chance Cam Newton and the Panthers will get a chance to exact some revenge. On paper, the NFC reps look awfully similar heading into the 2016 season as they were at the end of 2015.
Denver? Not so much. It would take a brave man to even try to hazard a guess who the starting quarterback is going to be for the Broncos in 2016, especially knowing that that man might not even be on the roster heading into the NFL Draft.
Bengals at Jets, Sunday, September 11, 1:00 p.m. ET (CBS)
Cincinnati and New York won't make for the sexiest game on the docket, but considering the fact that both of these teams are clearly at least going to be playoff contenders, this could be an important one come December and January.
The Jets still don't have a quarterback locked up for the time being either, but we have to think it's going to be Ryan Fitzpatrick when push comes to shove. This will also be the first time Cincinnati is on the field since the collapse against Pittsburgh in the opening round of the playoffs. We'll have to see how the team reacts, especially on the road in a tough environment.
Patriots at Cardinals, Sunday, September 11, 8:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
Sunday Night Football should be a doozy, as many think this game between the Pats and Cards could be an early Super Bowl preview. New England once again has one of the best teams in the NFL on paper so long as Father Time doesn't all of a sudden run down Tom Brady, and Arizona was in the NFC Championship Game last season.
The subplot here is the fact that Chandler Jones will be going up against the team which traded him for a second round pick just a few months ago. The Cardinals are certainly better at rushing the passer now that they have Jones on their side, but will he be able to get after Brady?
This is the only game on the Week 1 docket which opened up at a pick 'em, and we can say with supreme confidence that that's right around where it's going to close at in a few months, barring any catastrophic injuries to either team.
