Week 10 NFL Odds - Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles Game Preview

Falcons-at-Eagles-bm

Apparently the bye came at a bad time for the Philadelphia Eagles. Undefeated at 3-0 entering their off week, the Eagles have stumbled losing for the fourth time in five games since then with Sunday’s loss to the Giants. The rookie magic has worn off and the Eagles have been grounded. The other bird is soaring with the high-flying Atlanta Falcons heading to the City of Brotherly Love for a Week 10 tilt with the NFL’s top ranked offense and first place in the NFC South.

This matchup in Week 10 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field.

Odds Analysis

Atlanta’s only road loss was a controversial decision at Seattle where they were able to cover the spread. The Falcons are 4-0 ATS on the road and get a fragile Eagles team in a game that has over 90 percent of the spread wagers on the visitors. Don’t be fooled, though. With an off-week following this one, the Falcons are primed for a letdown. They will score, but so will the Eagles, making this one a good candidate for over bettors.

Injury Report

Desmond Trufant – Atlanta’s top cover corner left Thursday’s game with a shoulder injury and didn’t return. If Trufant misses the game, expect Carson Wentz to go after Robert Alford or Brian Poole, the likely candidates to replace Trufant in the Falcons’ secondary.

Allen Barbre – Philly’s starting guard missed the last game with a hamstring injury, joining Lane Johnson on the sideline weakening the offensive line. The Giants took advantage by pressuring Wentz into a pair of early interceptions. Wentz’s quarterback rating has been heading south following Johnson’s suspension and he has thrown four picks in his last three games.

Matchup to Watch

Philadelphia’s defense was as good as Wentz during the first three games of the season. But now the group looks downright ordinary, and that’s not good with the Falcons coming to town. One week after wilting late in an overtime loss to the Cowboys, the Eagles’ faltered again, allowing two early Eli Manning touchdown passes for a crater they couldn’t come out of. Manning had four scoring tosses in the Giants’ 28-23 win and the Eagles have surrendered at least 24 points in each of their four losses.

Overall the numbers are still good, but the Eagles have struggled over the past four games. After not allowing an opponent to amass more than 288 total yards in the first four games, the Eagles have twice given up over 400 yards and are allowing an average of 384 yards per game in that span. Not surprisingly, they are 1-3 with the only win coming against the offensively-challenged Vikings in a game they surrendered 282 yards. So, the group will be tested once again by the high-powered Falcons attack that leads the league in scoring and ranks second in passing yards and total yards per game. Atlanta can be stopped, but it’s going to take a better effort than what the Eagles have put forth the last month.

Free ATS Pick

The Falcons shrugged off a pair of losses to regain control of the NFC South by beating the Packers and Buccaneers in consecutive weeks, and they’ve done it with a diverse offensive attack. Matt Ryan is the ring leader and tops the NFL in passing yards. Julio Jones has the most receiving yards in the league. But the Falcons are much more than just those two. It would be tough to notice since they get all the accolades, but Ryan has thrown touchdown passes to 11 different receivers and seven players have at least 210 receiving yards. Atlanta needs all that production since the defense is still a work in progress, but Ryan and Co. show no signs of letting up.

Despite their mistakes and blown opportunities, the Eagles were still in a position to steal a victory against the Giants. However, with a chance to score the winning touchdown, Wentz tossed four straight incomplete passes with the ball deep in New York territory near the end of the game. Atlanta could be ripe for a beating with its bye week looming and the Eagles are 3-0 SU and ATS at the Link. I like Philly to rebound after two tough road losses and come away with a cover win that surpasses the total.

NFL Odds: Eagles 30, Falcons 27
