Week 10 NFL Odds - Seattle Seahawks at New England Patriots Game Preview

Seahawks-at-Patriots-bm

The last time these teams got together they produced one of the greatest Super Bowl games in NFL history. The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots will be meeting in Week 10 for the first time since that epic battle back in February 2015. It wasn’t that long ago and many of the faces remain the same, so it’s not unrealistic to expect another classic. One player not on the field is Marshawn Lynch, and what a sight it would be if say the Seahawks had the ball on the Pats 1-yard line.

Watch this regular season Week 10 matchup live on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at 8:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The last opponent for both teams was Buffalo and going by the outcome of those games, the Pats should be the victor. It doesn’t work that way, but it’s still fun to talk about. New England has been money against the spread going 7-1 with three of those wins coming as a favorite of at least 7-points, so the opening line isn’t too surprising. Pats backers are all over it with 85 percent of the wagers for the home team, but the line is high for a team as good as Seattle.

Injury Report

Thomas Rawls – Seattle’s running back has missed several games, but it’s worth noting that the ground game has suffered immensely without him. The Seahawks have the second-worst rushing attack in the NFL and managed just 33 yards on Monday when receiver Tyler Lockett was the team’s leading ground gainer.

Kam Chancellor – There’s a chance Seattle’s safety is back for this game and the Seahawks sure could use him. Chancellor has the size to matchup with New England’s tight ends, who will surely be a favorite target of Tom Brady.

Key Stat

The Seahawks have allowed a season-high 25 points in each of the last two games and the common thread in letting the opposition produce that number has been their inability to get off the field on third downs. Seattle was gouged by Buffalo during Monday night’s contest by an expert game plan. The Bills used plenty of motion and a variety of different formations to keep the defense scrambling right until the snap. You know Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels took note of that while watching the contest. The Seahawks had a devil of a time ending drives, allowing the Bills to convert 12 of 17 third downs.

The week prior, New Orleans converted on 9 of 15 third downs and Seattle wasn’t as lucky with the outcome. The Seahawks want to avoid giving up the big play and force teams to string together long drives. And right now the opponents are doing that. The Patriots are one of the best at extending drives, converting over 47 percent of the time on third down. If the pattern holds, the Pats will hold onto the football and wear down the defense, which in turn becomes susceptible.

Free ATS Pick

The Seahawks better find answers on defense or it could be a long night in Foxboro. Seattle struggled getting off the field against Buffalo, defended twice as many plays as the offense ran, and was on the field for 40 minutes. But in the end the Seahawks came up with the big stop to win the game. For a change the defense got bailed out by their mates on the other side of the ball. Seattle had its biggest scoring output since dropping 37 on the Niners back in Week 3.

As odd as this sounds Seattle could be better off facing Brady than they were against Tyrod Taylor. Brady is sneaky in the pocket but he doesn’t have the mobility of Taylor, who gave the defense fits with his scrambling and extending of plays. Brady will use Gronk and Martellus Bennett in the short passing game with hopes of softening up the secondary for shots downfield. The key in this one is can the Patriots stop Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense. Seattle showed signs of life offensively against Buffalo and Wilson looked comfortable throwing the ball. He’s still hurting, however, and some early pressure will get him thinking. Seattle will keep it close and cover the spread, but their inability to run the football will ultimately be their downfall in what should be a fun matchup.

NFL Odds: Patriots 26, Seahawks 23
