The Tennessee Titans have alternated wins and losses over their past six games and if the trend continues they’ll get a victory in their Week 12 showdown with the Chicago Bears. It’s not just about trends, however. Another reason why the Titans are favored is that the Bears have been ravaged by injuries and might be one of the unluckiest teams in the NFL when it comes to time missed. They also have Jay Cutler, who thwarted another possible comeback with one his patented turnovers in a loss to the Giants on Sunday.

Odds Analysis
Despite the team’s records, the Titans are for from an overwhelming favorite in this one, opening at -2. The visitors are getting plenty of early action with over 70 percent of the spread wagers and we could see that line move in the coming days. The Titans had their streak of seven straight over plays end with Sunday’s loss to the Colts and the Bears are a decent defensive club. Chicago wants to possess the football and if successful, the under has plenty of value.
Injury Report
Taylor Lewan – The Titans suffered a potentially big blow when starting tackle Lewan left the Colts game with an apparent knee injury. Lewan is the anchor for one of the top run games in the NFL and if he’s absent for any length of time the ground game could suffer.
Zach Miller – Already without their top wide receiver as Alshon Jeffery sits out his suspension, the Bears lost their leading pass catcher when Miller broke a bone in his foot Sunday. Miller is not only Chicago’s leader in receptions, he also has a team-best four touchdown catches. His loss leaves a huge void at the tight end spot with Logan Paulsen the next leading receiver at the position with just three catches.
Matchup to Watch
The Titans love to bring pressure and they are one of the top quarterback sack teams in the NFL with 30 after posting two against Andrew Luck and the Colts on Sunday. Sometimes, however, the quarterback gets the upper hand and unfortunately that’s what happened to Tennessee in its loss at Indy where Luck was able to thrive under the pressure.
Don’t expect the Titans to change their approach against the Bears. Chicago is down another offensive lineman after losing guard Josh Sitton to an ankle injury. He joins Bobby Massie and Kyle Long on the shelf and the group had a difficult time protecting Cutler from the Giants’ pass rush. Cutler was sacked four times and pressured into an interception. He also fumbled the ball, but the Bears were able to recover. Cutler tends to get happy feet in the pocket when pressured and has a tendency to turn the ball over. The Titans will dial it up against a weakened line and if the Bears can’t run the ball, Cutler will commit a turnover or two.
Free ATS Pick
The Bears have to be the most banged up team in the NFL at this point after losing a few more bodies in the Giants game. Wins will be hard to come by with a B team on the field, but the Bears will play hard as auditions for next season begin. John Fox is likely auditioning as well, so there’s more pressure on the entire club. But it’s hard to win games even with a full roster and Chicago is far from having that.
For some unexplainable reason, in the biggest game of the year for the Titans, they allowed the Colts to jump out to a three-touchdown lead and didn’t have enough in the tank to overcome the early deficit. When we think the Titans are ready to take that next step and jump into a contender role in the AFC South, they lay an egg. It’s a sign that the team isn’t there yet, but they are getting close. The Titans are much closer than the Bears, and Tennessee hasn’t had to deal with the injury bug either. With some important pieces missing on offense, expect the Bears to play a more conservative style with a lot of runs and short passes out of the backfield. That will keep the score down, but the Titans have too many weapons.
NFL Odds: Titans 20, Bears 17
