Week 2 NFL Odds - New York Jets at Buffalo Bills Game Preview

JetsAtBillsBM

While the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills aren’t currently seen as top contenders in the AFC, they both could be in the playoff race in 2016. With so many teams vying for just a few spots, wins in toss-up games early on are crucial.

That looks to be the case in Week 2 of the regular season, as the Jets and Bills face off in a matchup that could have big ramifications down the line. Both teams will be eager to get back in the winning column in this one as the Jets are fresh off a season-opening loss to the Bengals and the Bills fell to Ravens.

This matchup in Week 2 of the regular season will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 8:25 p.m. ET at New Era Field.

Bills -2.5

Odds Analysis

The Bills didn’t look very good in their opener but get the benefit of the doubt at home as slight favorites. The Jets are the more popular pick to cover the spread, and a moneyline option on them would be intriguing.

It’s a lower scoring total than most other games and even so, the “under” is getting hit hard.

Injury Report

Marcell Dareus - The Bills’ defensive tackle is serving a four-game suspension for substance abuse, leaving a big hole in the defensive front.

Cordy Glenn -- The Bills’ left tackle exited the Ravens game with ankle injury and did not return. Buffalo is already down right tackle Seantrel Henderson who is serving a four-game suspension for substance abuse. Cyrus Kouandjio is expected replace Glenn if needed.

Matchup to Watch

Jets defensive line vs. Bills offensive line: This is a strength-against-strength showdown, and the winner of it puts their team in a good position. Buffalo loves to run the ball behind dual-threat quarterback Tyrod Taylor and running back LeSean McCoy.

The offensive line is solid in Buffalo, as the group pass protects well and is usually able to get some movement in the running game. But the Bills’ group will have their hands full against one of the best defensive lines in the league.

Muhammad Wilkerson is a superstar who had 12 sacks a season ago. Sheldon Richardson was suspended for the first week of the season but will make his debut in this one. Leonard Williams is another key cog on the line and this group will undoubtedly make life tough on the Buffalo line.

Free ATS Pick

This should be an old-fashioned street brawl, as both teams have good defenses and are not afraid to run the ball. The Jets have a better passing offense, which could help tilt the outcome in their favor.

While Taylor has an elite pass-catching option in Sammy Watkins, Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has a pair of big-time options in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Much is expected of Taylor this year, who showed real promise a season ago, but at this point Fitzpatrick is the more accomplished signal-caller.

Taylor did not play very well in the Bills’ opener as the passing game was virtually nonexistent. That threat needs to be there or else the Jets will simply be able to load up against the run.

The Jets lost a close one to the Bengals and now hope to bounce back and avoid falling into an 0-2 hole early in the season. The Bills have the same goal in mind, but only one can emerge victorious.

Even though the Jets are on the road, they have a few more weapons and should be able to squeak out a close win with a late drive. This one should be low scoring, so consider the “under” on the scoring total.

NFL Odds: Jets 20, Bills 17
