Odds Analysis

The Packers’ struggles are on the bettors’ minds, as more than 60 percent of the money coming in on the spread is going to Detroit. The Lions don’t have the same potential as Green Bay, but the touchdown advantage is clearly enticing.

Gamblers expect the “over” to be the correct play on the scoring total, as 80 percent of the wagers are currently on that side.

Injury Report

Ameer Abdullah -- The Lions’ running back injured his foot in last week’s 16-15 loss to the Titans. He has impressive athleticism and it remains to be seen if he will be back for Green Bay. Theo Riddick could see an increased workload if Abdullah is out.

Ziggy Ansah -- The Lions’ standout defensive lineman hurt his ankle in the first series last week and left the game. HIs prognosis is not known, but if Ansah can’t play it’s a big loss. He had 14.5 sacks and four forced fumbles a season ago.

DeAndre Levy -- Another defensive star missed last week with a quadriceps injury, and it seems like he could miss this one as well. The Lions aren’t very good defensively already, and losing both Ansah and Levy would be tough to stomach.

Sam Shields -- The Packers’ top cornerback missed Week 2 with a concussion. Those injuries can be tricky, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sit another game, but check later in the week for his availability.

Player to Watch

Rodgers -- The star quarterback hasn’t been putting up his usual mind-boggling numbers of late. Rodgers has a career QB rating of 103.8, but it was 92.7 a season ago and is just 82.6 through two games this year.

He has star wideout Jordy Nelson back after missing him all of last year due to injury, but Nelson is still rounding into form. Rodgers has thrown for 412 yards this season with three touchdowns and an interception, and pass protection has been an issue.

If the Lions don’t have Levy or Ansah they will be handicapped defensively, and it will be a great opportunity for the Packers to get back on track on offense. Rodgers is still one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL but hasn’t played like it for some time.

Free ATS Pick

There are certainly some concerns in Green Bay following last week’s loss to the Vikings. The Packers are trying to push for a Super Bowl and at this point, the team more closely resembles last year’s squad than a title contender.

All the issues can’t be fixed in one week, but this one should help. The Packers have more talent and are healthier, plus they have the home field advantage. Even if Rodgers isn’t perfect, the injuries to two of Detroit’s main defensive cogs will loom large.

While the Lions are the more common choice to cover, expect the Packers to find their groove and coast in this contest. The “over” is the correct call as the Lions should score late as they try to creep closer.

NFL Odds: Packers 31, Lions 23
