Week 4 NFL Odds - Seattle Seahawks at New York Jets Game Preview

The good news for New York Jets fans is that things can’t get much worse than what happened Sunday in Kansas City. The bad news is that the Seattle Seahawks are the Week 4 opponent. With playoff and Super Bowl talk surrounding the Jets in the preseason, the start has been nothing what Todd Bowles imagined and the eight-turnover performance is one that needs to be flushed soon or the Jets could be sitting in a deeper hole in the AFC than they are in right now.

Watch this regular season Week 4 matchup live on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium.

Odds Analysis

While oddsmakers wait for news on the health and status of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, the line remains off the board. Wilson suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s win over San Francisco and was removed from the game. Wilson means so much to Seattle’s offense, if he does sit, the line will be set accordingly. Even if Wilson plays, he won’t be 100 percent and we saw what the Rams did to Seattle in Week 2 against the gimpy quarterback.

Injury Report

Russell Wilson – The Seahawks quarterback suffered a knee sprain Sunday and Pete Carroll said, “We’re going to do the right thing.” With a bye coming up following Sunday’s game, we could assume that Wilson will sit against the Jets and have an additional week to rest the knee and ankle injury he sustained in Week 1. If that’s the case, Trevone Boykin would step move up to starter. While he possesses the same skill set, he isn’t Wilson, especially in the passing department, and the offense would suffer a setback.

Matchup to Watch

It was a game Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets would like to forget, but they’ll have to deal with the negative New York press for at least a week until they suit up again and attempt to put the eight turnover disaster against the Chiefs behind them. That’s right, eight turnovers, and Fitzpatrick was responsible three-fourths of them by tossing a franchise record-tying six interceptions. Games like this are rare and it’s a safe bet to say the Jets won’t duplicate that performance against Seattle.

But the turnovers are a huge concern, especially the interceptions. Three of Fitzpatrick’s picks came inside the red zone, ending any chance the Jets had of winning the game, and New York has a NFL-high 10 giveaways through three games. Their minus-8 turnover differential is also the league’s worst and they face a Seattle defense that is even more athletic than Kansas City’s. The Seahawks haven’t created many turnovers this season, but they have proven to be very adept at doing so and Fitzpatrick and the Jets offense has to be a little gun shy after what happened on Sunday.

Free ATS Pick

Already two games behind the Brady-less Patriots in the AFC East, the Jets can’t afford another loss and they will find a way to rebound against Seattle. New York didn’t suffer a total team meltdown in its 24-3 loss to the Chiefs, rather Fitzpatrick was the guy responsible for most of the damage. The defense played well holding the Chiefs in check following the eight turnovers and the offensive line allowed the run game to produce and didn’t give up a sack. So there are positives to take from the game.

The Jets will also face a weary club making a cross country trip with some questions at its quarterback position. Wilson left Sunday’s game with a knee injury and a big part of his game is mobility in the pocket. If he plays, that will be a significant downgrade to his game. Boykin could get the start and that favors the Jets as well. Either way, New York’s defense is still very good and Seattle hasn’t shown much against the better defensive clubs this season. That all adds up to a Jets home victory.

NFL Odds: Jets 24, Seahawks 21
