Week 6 NFL Odds - Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins Game Preview

Carson Wentz is human after all. The rookie threw his first career interception and the Philadelphia Eagles fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a loss in Detroit. With that, the NFC East just got a whole lot tighter. After having just one team finish with a winning record last season, the division could be one of the strongest in the NFL with three clubs having winning records through five weeks. The Washington Redskins look to keep their win streak alive when they host the Eagles in a key Week 6 battle.

This contest in Week 6 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at FedEx Field.

Odds Analysis

This game has seen the craziest line moves of the week. The Redskins opened as a 1.5-point favorite but the line jumped the fence and continues to grow in favor of the Eagles, who are now at -3. Philly continues to see plenty of action with over 70 percent of the wagers for the visitors. The line could even spike more before kickoff.

Injury Report

Lane Johnson – Philadelphia’s starting right tackle will miss the next 10 games after his suspension for PED use was upheld. Johnson has been a big part of the offensive line renaissance and has played very well in the first quarter of the season. He was ranked the No. 3 tackle by Pro Football Focus and his absence could affect how Wentz performs in the middle part of the year.

Josh Norman – The Redskins’ beat up secondary was hit again with injury when Norman hurt his hand last week. The injury may not keep him off the field, but it will definitely hurt his ability to hand check receivers, which Norman is best at, and will likely take away any chance at interceptions.

Player to Watch

The season got off to such a glorious start for Wentz and the Eagles, it was almost expected to continue. But now, Philadelphia and its prized rookie quarterback are facing some adversity for the first time after losing in Detroit on Sunday. Wentz opened his career by throwing a NFL record 134 passes without an interception, a record later broken in the same day by Dak Prescott. But the streak-ender was also a game-finisher for the Eagles. Wentz tried to lead his team to a comeback victory, but his first pick came on a drive right after the Lions had taken a one-point lead with less than a minute and a half to play.

Only needing a field goal for a win, Wentz unloaded a deep ball on the first play and was promptly picked. After going nearly four full games without a turnover, the Eagles gave it away twice in the final three minutes which led to their downfall. A fumble on the previous possession led to Detroit’s go-ahead field goal then Wentz’s desperate heave was picked. As easy as Wentz made things look the first three games, the tables can turn quickly. It’s up to the rookie to keep the Eagles in the right frame of mind moving forward.

Free ATS Pick

It was only a matter of time before Wentz tossed a pick and the Eagles turned the ball over. But it was a nice run while it lasted. After tasting defeat for the first time, we’ll get a chance to see just how good the Eagles are, and if they can overcome the issues that led to the loss. The true test for a team isn’t when things are going well, rather how it responds to the troubling times. Philly played a nice game against the Lions, overcoming a 21-10 deficit before the turnovers killed them. Wentz has been spectacular, despite the pick that ended Sunday’s game, and he’s ready for a bounce back effort.

The Skins used their defense for a change to hold on for their third straight win. However, it came against a team that has struggled and fired its offensive coordinator the next day. It’s hard to say Washington has suddenly turned into a juggernaut on that side of the football. The Eagles have the weapons to spin the Skins around and Wentz will continue to fire away at a secondary that is still undermanned. The total is well within reach and laying three points is a gift for Eagles backers.

NFL Odds: Eagles 31, Redskins 24
