A prize pool of $3 million dollars has attracted a number of big names to Dubai this week for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson leads the field and he is joined by other top players including Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Matt Kuchar and last year’s Race to Dubai winner Tommy Fleetwood. We are coming off a tough week with the matchup picks at the BMW SA Open, so we’ll look to turn things around this week. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Abu Dhabi Golf Club is a par 72 that is long and flat at 7,583 yards. There are plenty of hazards and the wind could be a factor. The course has played pretty easy in recent years, so players have to make a lot of birdies. Driving distance is important, as is hitting greens in regulation.
Rory McIlroy -120 vs. Justin Rose
I think Rory will have a chance to win this week, so I will take him in all of the matchups except against Johnson. This matchup against Rose has Rory as a slight favorite. Rory has been really good in Dubai with four wins. I like Rory to break his winless drought and win in Dubai this week, so I will take him in this matchup against Rose.
Rafa Cabrera Bello -120 vs. Matthew Fitzpatrick
I like the distance of Cabrera Bello in this matchup against Fitzpatrick. I like playing Fitzpatrick on shorter courses where his putting is the difference. That won’t be the case here, as distance is one of the key stats. I will take Cabrera Bello in this matchup.
Henrik Stenson -120 vs. Paul Casey
Stenson has been really good in the desert in his career, but he is still looking for his first win in this event. I think it could come this week. He has finished runner-up in this tournament twice. Stenson has won the Dubai Desert Classic, Qatar Masters and DP World Tour Championship in the past, so he just needs to win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to complete the set. Casey always seems to be in the mix, yet he rarely wins. I will take Stenson in this matchup.
Dean Burmester -115 vs. Dylan Frittelli
A bad first round cost Burmester last week, as he shot 77, but he played well in the final three rounds. He finished seventh in this event a year ago and he was fourth at the DP World Championship. I will lay the small price and take Burmester in this matchup.
Bernd Wiesberger -110 vs. Thomas Pieters
Wiesberger finished fourth in this event a year ago and he was sixth in 2015. He has been in Dubai early preparing for this event, as he hopes to get off to a fast start in 2018. I will take Wiesberger in this matchup.
