Spaniards Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia will get much of the attention from fans in Spain this week in the Andalucia Valderrama Masters, which begins on Thursday. Rahm and Garcia are also the two betting favorites, with Rahm listed at +505, while Garcia is listed at +565. There is a big drop to the third choice in the betting, as Shane Lowry is listed at +1452. We are coming off a 3-2 week with the picks at the Italian Masters. Let’s look at the matchups and picks for this week’s Andalucia Valderrama Masters.

Andalucia Valderrama Masters Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Valderrama is all about ball striking, as the fairways are narrow and the greens are small. Driving Accuracy will be one of the key statistics we consider this week. Last year when Andrew Johnston won at Valderrama in the Open de Espana he led the field in Driving Accuracy and Greens-in-Regulation. We’ll look at those two stats this week.
Sergio Garcia -130 vs. Jon Rahm
I like Garcia to be in contention for the win this week, as he won this event in 2011 and has consistently finished in the Top 10 year after year. He has finished second three times in this tournament. Rahm is very talented but I think his accuracy off the tee will be a major problem at Valderrama. Garcia is ranked 18th in terms of driving accuracy, while Rahm is outside the top 50. I will lay the short price and take Garcia.
Soren Kjeldsen +117 vs. Martin Kaymer
I am surprised that Kjeldsen is listed as the underdog in this matchup. He has been excellent at Valderrama in his career with a win, two seconds and a fourth place finish. He hasn’t played since August but he has had so much success on this course that I don’t think his lack of action matters. Kaymer has also played well at Valderrama but it has not been a good season for Kaymer and he has two missed cuts in his last four starts overall. I will take the plus money on Kjeldsen.
Nacho Elvira -135 vs. Nino Bertasio
Elvira won a Challenge Tour event in Spain a couple of years ago and he has solid numbers in terms of driving accuracy and in greens in regulation. Bertasio played well last week in Italy but he hits the ball long and not straight. I will lay the small price and take Elvira in this matchup.
Austin Connelly +117 vs. Joakim Lagergren
This is another key stat matchup for us, as Connelly ranks 15th in driving accuracy, while Lagergren is 51st. I will take the plus price on Connelly in this matchup.
Alejandro Canizares +111 vs. Andrew Johnston
This is another matchup where I am surprised at the line, as I think Canizares should be favored. If there is one thing you can count on with Canizares is that he hits the ball straight and accuracy is huge on this course. He has solid course form with an 11th, a 7th and a 21st place finish. He also played well in Italy last week with a tie for 15th. I know Johnston won at Valderrama last year but he is still working his way back from a shoulder injury and I think he is overvalued. I will take Canizares at plus money.
