Sergio Garcia and Marc Leishman headline the field for the Australian PGA Championship. They are listed as co-favorites at odds of +750, while Adam Scott is the third choice at odds of +850. It is a very top-heavy field this week, as only ten players are listed with odds of less than +4000. We are coming off a 2-3 week with the matchup picks at the UBS Hong Kong Open. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Australian PGA Championship.

Australian PGA Championship Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The RACV Royal Pines Resort is tight with a lot of trees, so accuracy off the tee will be important this week and scrambling will be of utmost importance, as players are going to get into trouble. There is a good chance of rain and wind on Thursday and Friday, so the scores could be high early. The weekend forecast looks good, so the scores should improve. I will focus on scrambling this week as the key statistic.
Cameron Smith -240 vs. Matt Jones
The hot pick to win the tournament is Smith, as he is getting a lot of respect as the third betting choice behind Garcia and Leishman. Smith has been solid at Royal Pines with a 15th, a 5th, a 9th and a 35th place finish. Jones played well last week, but he missed the cut in this event in 2010 and hasn’t played this tournament when it has been held at Royal Pines. The price is high, but I like Smith.
Wade Ormsby -115 vs. Ryan Fox
Ormsby is coming off a win last week and he has dominates the key stat this week against Fox. Ormsby is 6th on the European Tour in scrambling, while Fox ranks just 156th. I will take Ormsby in this matchup.
Jonas Blixt -120 vs. Ryan Fox
Blixt finished second last week at the Australian Open, so he is in fine form. This is also a play against Fox who is simply not very good at scrambling. I will lay the price and take Blixt in this matchup.
Sergio Garcia -130 vs. Adam Scott
Sergio has played well this season and he is very focused on getting this win. He said this week that he has been close before in Australia and really wants to check winning there off his list. It also helps that Garcia is ranked 1st on the European Tour in scrambling and that Scott has just one top 20 finish in his last eight starts. I know Scott normally plays well in Australia, but I like Sergio in this matchup.
Brett Rumford -115 vs. Lucas Herbert
Rumford is a local who ranks 43rd on the European Tour in scrambling. He won the World Super 6 Perth earlier this year and he almost always plays well in front of his home fans. Herbert led at the halfway mark last week but faded. He was awful at Royal Pines two years ago when he shot 77-80. I will take Rumford in this matchup.
