British Masters Golf Odds - Preview and Predictions

The British Masters has a new venue and a new host. Last year the tournament was played at nearby Woburn with Ian Poulter as the host, this year the event moves to The Grove and Luke Donald +2550 is the tournament host. Joining Donald in the field include Ryder Cuppers Lee Westwood +5000, Matthew Fitzpatrick +3240, Chris Wood +2400, Danny Willett +2000 and Andy Sullivan +4000. European Tour winners Alex Noren +1200, Thongchai Jaidee +4000, Tyrrell Hatton +2200, Alexander Levy +3250 and Joost Luiten +3750 are all scheduled to compete. It’s not a flashy field, but does have good depth.

The Grove is the host course this year and it plays to a par 71. It is on the shorter side in length at only 7,100 yards, but is a fun course that will yield a ton of low scores. In the words of tournament host Luke Donald: “It is a world class facility, a great hotel and I think all the players will really enjoy playing the golf course. The Grove is a parkland course, and it has some elevation changes. It is always presented in great condition. It has a really nice variety of some longer holes, and some drivable par fours. I think it will also be a fun course for the spectators.”

The tournament has a pretty cool event to get things started. On Tuesday evening under the floodlights there will be a skills competition, featuring eight players, in seven quick-fire head-to-head straight knockout matches, the last man standing will be crowned champion, with the entire contest concluded in less than an hour.

The eight man field includes tournament host Luke Donald, Andy Sullivan, Alex Noren, Shane Lowry, Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, Frenchman Alexander Levy, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh and fan favorite Beef Johnston. A clever way to get the event started and I wish more events would do the same.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Shane Lowry +1900 loves playing on British soil and the results prove it. Lowry’s form on English soil is impressive; his last six starts read like this, 2 - 6 - 9 - 9 - 2 - 12. He appears to be out of his slump following the U.S. Open debacle and it’s time for the big man to step it up and finish the year strong. He has all the talent and needs to put it all together and grab a win before the Race to Dubai gets started in three weeks. Lowry churns out a top five finish for sure and maybe even a win.

One player to shy away from is Andy Sullivan +4000. Another of the defeated European Ryder Cup team, Sullivan skipped last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship so this is his first start since Hazeltine where he was one of four Euros to end up with zero points. His confidence is gone, his game is erratic and he will once again disappoint his fans by missing the cut this week. FADE Sullivan!

The days of Lee Westwood playing elite status golf are over. He stunk it up at the Ryder Cup and stunk it up last week in Scotland by shooting 82. His mental state is a complete wreck and having to deal with a nasty divorce has to be weighing on his mind and distracting his form. FADE WESTWOOD!
