Thorbjorn Olesen is favored to win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which begins on Thursday. Keep in mind that Qatar is eight hours ahead of Eastern Time, so the action gets underway very early on Thursday morning. We went 2-1-1 last week with the matchups at the NBO Oman Open and there was also a withdrawal, as Richie Ramsay didn’t play due to illness. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The wind is expected to blow in Qatar this week, so look for players who do well in the wind and on links courses. Four Open Champions have won this event in the past. There have been three repeat winners in this event since 1999, so don’t discount the chances of defending champion Jeunghun Wang. Experience is extremely important at Doha, as no player making his debut in this event has won since 2005.
Thorbjorn Olesen -120 vs. Andy Sullivan
Olesen finished second in this event two years ago and he was third in 2014. I am not entirely sold that Sullivan has turned the corner from a poor 2017 season, but his form has been better. He tied for 19th and tied for 28th in this event the last two years. I am surprised the price on Olesen isn’t higher and I will take him in this matchup.
Jeunghun Wang -120 vs. Julian Suri
I mentioned earlier that defending champions definitely have a decent chance in this event. Wang is just 22 years old and has played well this season with three top 26 finishes. Suri did nothing on the PGA Tour with a tie for 63rd, a missed cut and a 68th place finish. I think it may take him a bit to get back into form on the European Tour, so I will lay the price and take Wang in this matchup.
Thomas Detry -125 vs. Shubhankar Sharma
Detry has made 8 of 9 cuts since October and he tied for 28th in this event a year ago. Sharma has been a surprise this season, but I am going against him here, as he wasn’t that great in Abu Dhabi with a tie for 48th and he tied for 61st in Dubai.
Seungsu Han -135 vs. Fabrizio Zanotti
Han is in solid form, with five top five finishes in his last nine starts. Zanotti hasn’t played that well in Doha in the past with five missed cuts in eight tries. I will take Han in this matchup.
Matthieu Pavon -115 vs. Stephen Gallacher
I said in the odds preview that I think it is only a matter of time before Pavon wins and it could be this week. He stumbled last week after a strong start, but I expect a strong showing from him this week. I will take Pavon in this matchup.
