The European tour is back in action this week at the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play. Host, Paul Lawrie welcomes 63 other players from around the world in the third match play format of the year. The format is simple - you win and you move on - you lose and you go home!
Richie Ramsay, Matthew Southgate and Richard Bland are the betting favorites but in this format anything can and will happen. One round, anyone can beat anyone and that’s what makes match play so exciting.

Bradley Dredge vs. Victor Dubuisson
All you need to know is this; in Dubuisson’s last five starts he’s missed the cut four times and withdrew from the other two. Clearly, the flamboyant Frenchman is not firing on all cylinders. I give the edge to Dredge.
Matthew Southgate vs. Romain Wattel
Southgate is by far the better player and his recent form is solid. Wattel is a talented Frenchman but has missed three of the last four cuts and is struggling to make the top 125. Southgate cruises!
Edoardo Molinari vs. Robert Karlsson
Karlsson is fighting and grinding to earn exempt status for next year. This format should be perfect for the Big Swede. Molinari won earlier this year but has cooled off since. Karlsson pulls the upset.
Jorge Campillo vs. Felipe Aguilar
Campillo’s last seven first rounds have all been over par. He’s played this course four times and failed to break par. Sounds to me like the Spaniard will be catching an early flight home. Aguilar makes Chile proud by moving on the the second round.
Paul Peterson vs. Jamie Donaldson
I’m taking the experience of Donaldson in this one. No one can forget the epic shot he hit to seal the Ryder Cup in 2014 in his match with Keegan Bradley. Peterson is a streaky player but the Welshman will earn the win.
Peter Hanson vs. Paul Lawrie
Two veterans will duel it out in this match. Lawrie is the tournament host and No. 180 in the Race to Dubai standings. Hanson is No. 85. You do the math - you gotta love Hanson in this one.
Paul Dunne vs. Nathan Holman
One player is ranked 653rd in the world, the other 183rd. The rankings don’t lie and neither do the standings in the Race to Dubai. Dunne is currently No. 34, while Holman is No. 284. Dunne all day, everyday!
