The European Tour travels to India for the 2nd edition of the Hero Indian Open. Defending champion Anirban Lahiri +1200 headlines a lackluster field. As is the norm this time of year, most, or all of the top European players are playing in the U.S. or taking the week off to prepare for the first major of the year which is only three weeks away.
Joining Lahiri in the field include Joost Luiten +1175, Padraig Harrington +3100, last week’s winner Scott Hend +3000 and American Peter Uihlein +2000.
Delhi Golf Club is again the host track. The layout measures 6,983 yards and plays to a par 72. Designed by General J.H. Wilkinson in 1951 and redesigned by Peter Thomson across in 1977, Delhi Golf Club has bermuda fairways and undulating greens. Indian star Shiv Kapur gave this useful insight last year. “You hit very few drivers off the tee but lots of irons. It’s all about position off the tee so it’s not a bomber’s golf course. You need to be patient and bide your time.” So, there you have it - put the ball in the fairway and putt well and you have a good chance.

ODDS ANALYSIS
I always like to fade players that win the week before and it’s no different this week. Scott Hend +3000 won last week, so this week fade him! Hend’s record in India is mediocre at best - He’s had eight starts in India with finishes of MC-42-43-27-MC-38-WD-19 - that’s not very good. Fade Hend!
Chiragh Kumar +8000 is a name that I am not that familiar with but after checking him out, he can not be ignored this week and has plenty of sleeper potential. He won the latest tournament to be played at Delhi GC, November’s Panasonic Open. That added to a previous second place there in the 2011 Indian Open. Kumar, who was T39 in this event last year, has been struggling in the early part of 2016 but gave his confidence a boost with a T19 in last week’s True Thailand Classic.
