After a two year break the ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf is back in action thanks to the company of ISPS Handa. They also sponsored the last World Cup when it was staged at nearby Royal Melbourne Golf Club in 2013, where Adam Scott and Jason Day teamed up to win. It’s a win - win for both ISPS Handa and the world of golf to bring back a tournament that is different than others and rich in history.

“ISPS is very pleased to once again sponsor this important international team event,” said Dr. Handa, who serves as the organisation’s chairman. “The World Cup of Golf has such a rich history and ISPS has been supporting golf on a global basis for a number of years. At ISPS, we strongly believe in the ‘power of sport’ and its ability to break down barriers, create hope and inspire people around the world. We consider The ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf to be an ideal platform and partnership where we are able to activate the vision we share with all those involved. We had a wonderful experience in Melbourne in 2013 and look forward to another great event at Kingston Heath.”

This week’s format returns to a 72-hole, stroke play, two-man team event format. The first and third days of competition will be alternate shot format and the second and final day will be best-ball. We should be in for a real shoot out on the last day, some low scores and exciting finish.

This will be the 58th year of the tournament and this year’s field is loaded with talent. A total of 56 players from 28 countries will be on hand to crown one champion. The Aussie team +550 of Adam Scott and Marc Leishman are the host team and one of the favorites to win. The two are good friends, feel comfortable playing together and will bring excitement to the tournament.

Other teams include the United States represented by Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker +750, the Irish with Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry +1500, Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa and Hideki Matsuyama +900, Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Jon Rahm +1000, Belgium’s Thomas Pieters and Nicolas Colsaerts +1600 and England’s Andy Sullivan and Chris Wood +1200.

The Course: Kingston Heath Golf Club is one of Australia's best golf courses and consistently ranked among the top 50 courses in the world. The course is famous for its superbly crafted greens and unique bunkers. The signature par-3 15th hole is one of the classic short holes in the world. The venue has hosted big events in the past including several Australian Opens and multiple Australian Match Play events.

ODDS ANALYSIS

TEAM JAPAN - Hideki Matsuyama and Ryo Ishikawa +900

Matsuyama and Ishikawa pose a formidable partnership, combining for 23 victories worldwide. Matsuyama is one of the rising stars in the world of golf and one of the best ball strikers on the planet. Ishikawa is coming off a back injury that sidelined him for all of last year, but is back in form and playing well again. The duo is hoping their skills will complement each other well in hopes of winning Japan’s third World Cup of Golf title, and their first since Toshimitsu Izawa and Shigeki Maruyama claimed the trophy in 2002.

TEAM BELGIUM - Thomas Pieters and Nicolas Colsaerts +1600

If they were passing out long drive awards, this tandem would win going away. Arguably the two longest hitters in the world team up to represent Belgium. Pieters and Colsaerts are great friends, play a lot of practice rounds together and will be tough to beat if they can find the fairway.
