The European Tour returns to the Far East this week for the final tournament of the 2015 regular season. This week’s UBS Hong Kong Open is the last chance for the players to secure a spot in the top 60 for the Final Series which begins next week in Turkey.
The UBS Hong Kong Open was first established in 1959 but only joined the schedule in 2001 when double Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal took the title. This year will be the 15th edition of the event.
Justin Rose +600 is the highest ranked player in the field and is excited to play in Hong Kong. Fresh off his T6 finish at the Frys, com Open, he told europeantour.com, “Hong Kong is one of my favourite cities in the world, and Fanling is a great golf course. I haven’t played there for four years now, but decided to add the tournament to my schedule to give myself as good a chance as possible of winning The Race to Dubai.”
Joining Rose in the field include American’s Dustin Johnson +900 and Patrick Reed +1915, four-time winner in Hong Kong, Miguel Angel Jimenez +2550 and recent winner of the British Masters, Matt Fitzpatrick +1600.
Fanling Golf Club is the host course this week. The venue is a very short 6,699-yard par 70. This is how Justin Rose describes it: “Fanling is a very traditional, tree-lined, tight course. It’s not long, but a great test of golf and not easy – as the winning score usually tells you.”

Hong Kong Golf Club is an old school, tree-lined layout that is a perfect fit for Matthew Fitzpatrick +1600. The young Englishman picked up his first win a few weeks ago at the British Masters and has been red-hot since July, piling up strong finishes on a weekly basis. He is one of the straightest drivers on the European Tour and also one of the best putters - two ingredients needed to take it low in Hong Kong.
Graeme McDowell +1825 currently stands 67th in the Race to Dubai standings. He needs a strong finish to climb into the top 60 and if he can get the putter rolling, he may pull it off. He arrived in Hong Kong a few days early to tidy up his game and the course should fit his eye. G-Mac loves shorter courses and has experience playing in Hong Kong. He played the Hong Kong Open every year from 2007-11, cracking the top 20 every time.
Marcus Fraser +2550 is one player to keep your eye on. The Aussie is coming off a T5 in the British Masters at Woburn in his last start and his record at Fanling is impressive. Fraser's accuracy off the tee and solid putting has served him well year after year in this tournament and overall he's 7-for-7 with five top 11 finishes. That includes T5 last year when he held the lead going into the final round and third in 2012. He's currently 58th on the Race To Dubai and need a good finish to secure a spot in the top 60.
STAY AWAY! Victor Dubuisson +4250 continues to disappoint and hard to figure out. He withdrew from last week’s event for personal reasons and has under-performed all year. Until the flamboyant Frenchman shows me something, I am fading him!
