Made in Denmark Golf Odds - Preview and Prediction

The strongest field in the history of the Made in Denmark will tee it up Thursday at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort in Farso, Denmark. Automatic qualification for the Ryder Cup has already been determined but players still have a chance to impress captain Darren Clarke and be chosen as a Wild Card pick.

Martin Kaymer, home favorite, Soren Kjeldsen, Shane Lowry and YE Yang join last year’s winner David Horsey and inaugural champion Marc Warren in the field. Horsey won wire-to-wire last year but it wasn’t easy as he nearly blew a 7-shot lead.

Top Contenders

Martin Kaymer is listed as a lukewarm favorite to win this week at odds of 10/1. He is trying to do enough to impress Ryder Cup captain Clarke and it is possible as Kaymer played well at the PGA Championship and in the Olympics but his slow starts have ended up costing him chances to win.

Thomas Pieters is the second choice in the betting at odds of 11/1. He played well last week at the Czech Masters but he missed too many birdie chances and finished second.

Matthew Fitzpatrick clinched his Ryder Cup spot last week. He is listed with odds of 11/1. He could be a good choice this week as he can just relax and not worry about anything. The concern is that he finished tied for 44th in this event a year ago.

There could be some value in taking Soren Kjeldsen at odds of 16/1. He will be playing in front of his home crowd and he has the short game to do well at Himmerland.

Andy Sullivan is listed with odds of 18/1. He has clinched a Ryder Cup spot so perhaps he will be more relaxed this week. He didn’t play well last week in Prague and he missed the cut two years ago at Himmerland.

Shane Lowry is listed with odds of 22/1 but he hasn’t played nearly as well as he did early in the season. He was second at the U.S. Open in June but since that time he has missed four cuts. He did play a little better last week at the Wyndham Championship but he still finished tied for 42nd.

Lowry said that he thinks he needs to win to have any chance to make the Ryder Cup team. "I think I just need to go [to Denmark] and win to catch their eye at all," Lowry said, "Obviously the last six weeks haven't gone to plan since the US Open, but other than that my year has been okay. I've been playing well in the last couple of years, but just had a little bit of bad form at the wrong time.”

Live Longshot

If you want some value this week then take a look at Bradley Dredge at odds of 28/1. He has played really well in both of the previous Made in Denmark tournaments, finishing tied for 2nd in 2014 and he tied for 6th last year.

Tournament Notes

The Backtee Course at Himmerland was re-opened in 2013 after a major renovation. It measures just 7,033 yards but the course can be subject to strong winds and scores are not always low as the winning score in 2014 was 9-under. The inaugural Made in Denmark was held at Himmerland in 2014. The course features the par-3 16th hole that Nicolas Colsaerts compared to the 16th hole at the PGA event in Phoenix as it has large galleries surrounding the two-tiered green.

Golf Picks

I will take Pieters at odds of 11/1, Kjeldsen at 16/1 and gamble on Dredge as a longshot at odds of 28/1.
