NBO Oman Open Preview, Odds and Predictions

NBO-Oman-Open-Odds-To-Win-Euro

The NBO Oman Open is a brand new event on the European Tour, taking place in Muscat, Oman. Alexander Levy is favored in what should be a wide-open tournament, as Levy is listed at +1200. Shubhankar Sharma is the second choice in the betting at odds of +2000. There are very few recognizable names in the event and it would not be a surprise if a big longshot won this inaugural event. Let’s look at the tournament and predictions.

Odds Analysis

Alexander Levy +1200

Levy seems to have turned the corner with his play in the Middle East. Before this year his best finish in the Middle East was a tie for 20th. He has a tie for 7th and a tie for 4th this season in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I think Levy is a bit overvalued, as I don’t know that he should be a solid favorite in any tournament, but this field is very weak and Levy could win.

Shubhankar Sharma +2000

Sharma won the Maybank Championship, so he is getting more attention in the betting odds. He hasn’t really done anything of note in the Middle East, as he tied for 48th and tied for 61st. I think he is overvalued at these odds.

Andy Sullivan +2200

Sullivan has played better of late with a tie for 6th at Dubai and a tie for 17th in Malaysia. He tied for 9th in Qatar last year and he has played well in Dubai in previous years. He could be worth a flyer at odds of +2200.

Jeunghun Wang +2500

I think Wang has a lot of value at these odds. He has previous experience in the Middle East with a tie for 17th at the DP World Tour Championship in 2016 and he tied for 28th last year. He also won the Qatar Masters last year.

Joost Luiten +2500

I don’t know what to think of Luiten at these odds. He has a lot of experience playing in the Middle East with 15 top 30 finishes in 27 starts but Luiten has been up and down with his play of late. He did finish in a tie for 11th at the Maybank, so perhaps he is trending up.

Jorge Campillo +4000

I have three longshots this week, as I think a longshot could very well win. Campillo is up to 7th in the Race to Dubai and he played well in Abu Dhabi and in Malaysia. He is very capable of winning this event against a weak field.

David Horsey +4500

Horsey has a lot of experience playing in the Middle East and he comes in playing pretty well, as he shot a 63 in the Dubai Desert Classic and a 66 at the Maybank Championship.

Matthew Southgate +12500

My huge longshot is Southgate who loves links golf. He tied for 12th and tied for 6th in the last two Opens. He is known as a ball striker and this course should suit him.

Course: The Al Mouj Golf Course was designed by Greg Norman and is located right on the edge of the Indian Ocean. It is an interesting course, as it has some holes that look like links holes, while other holes are more like resort course holes. The grass is Bermuda and there are a number of water hazards and bunkers that will be in play. The course is known as a ball-strikers course, so length of the tee is not the key statistic to consider when making a pick this week. Wind is a huge factor on this course, as when it blows, scoring will be tough, but if conditions are calm, the scoring will be low. The early forecast calls for relatively calm winds.
