With the Ryder Cup a week away, many of the top European Tour players are taking the week off. The only two Ryder Cup players in the field are Martin Kaymer +1100 and Thomas Pieters +900. Both were captain’s picks and both are the favorites this week at the Porsche European Open. Kaymer is playing a home game and the German is still searching for his first win of the year. What better place to grab a win in front of the home folks. Pieters is an electric player that hits it long and has no fear. The Illinois product is becoming one of the young stars on the European Tour.
Defending champion Thongchai Jaidee +3450, Bernd Wiesberger +1450 and Scott Hend +2500 also could do some damage this week. Jaidee has struggled the past two weeks, missing both cuts, but his record in Germany is second to none and worth a look. Wiesberger came close to making the Ryder Cup squad and may use that as motivation and prove that Darren Clarke should have picked him. Hend is a hit or miss candidate on a weekly basis, but the course should suit his type of play.
Last year Thongchai Jaidee won his seventh European Tour title with a flawless final round at the Porsche European Open. The Thai star led by one shot overnight, and maintained that slender advantage after a steady, rather than spectacular, four under par 67. He also became the oldest winner of the event, at 45 years old.
The scores have been low in the last four editions at the Porsche European Open with the winning score between 13 and 19 under par. The course is forgiving off the tee which plays right into the hands of the long-hitters, but in the end it always comes down to who makes the putts. Drive for show, and putt for dough!

Surprisingly, Martin Kaymer is not the favorite on home soil. Thomas Pieters is the favorite and the one to beat.
ODDS ANALYSIS
Tommy Fleetwood +3200 has a lot of potential to take it to the next level but always seems to get in his own way. However, he is trending in the right direction with two top 10’s in his last two starts. His putting is a bit of a concern but his ball-striking is on the money. Fleetwood should churn out another high finish this week and is a play in all formats this week in Germany.
One player to stay away from this week is Nicolas Colsaerts +4200. The Belgian has never had success in Germany, missing 10 cuts in 17 attempts. Even if he manages to make the cut, he will have trouble putting four solid rounds together. A 77 is always lurking around the corner for the long hitter. When he loses it, he loses it in a big way!
American Bud Cauley +2750 did not qualify for the FedEx Cup but did end the year with two top ten finishes. The former Alabama star hits it long which could go a long ways on this course and makes him an attractive sleeper this week.
