No other player is listed with odds of less than +2250. None of the top ranked players in the world are in the field, as Schwartzel is the highest ranked at No. 21 in the world. Odds Analysis

Patrick Reed +1250

I have absolutely no confidence in Reed as the favorite this week. He is ranked 22nd in the world but he has missed the cut in his last two events. Maybe he can just suddenly turn it on but I am not betting on a player who hasn’t even made the cut in his last two tournaments.

Charl Schwartzel +1450

It is hard to get too excited about taking Schwartzel who seems to be all or nothing. He has not won since the Valspar Championship last year. In his last 13 events he has three top six finishes, but five missed cuts. He started well last week at the Open Championship but then collapsed.

Joost Luiten +2250

Luiten always seems to play well in Germany making 10 of 11 cuts on the European and Challenge Tours. He has eight finishes in the Top 30 in Germany including a win.

Richie Ramsay +3050

I think you can make a case for a number of longshots having a good chance this week including Ramsay. He had his moments last week at the Open Championship and he can definitely contend in this weak field. He is 20th in the Race to Dubai standings.

Paul Dunne +3050

Dunne has two Top 10 finishes in his last ten starts and he is 30th in the Race to Dubai. He could have some value at these odds in a weak field.

Matthew Southgate +3550

Why is Southgate listed as a big longshot? He is as capable of anyone in the field of winning this event. He is 17th in the Race to Dubai, just one spot behind Schwartzel who is listed at much lower odds.

Course: The North Course at Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg, Germany is a par 72 that measures 7,582 yards. Green Eagle hosted the ECCO Tour Championship on the European Challenge Tour in 2010. The North Course features big lakes and impressive bunkers.

Notes:This will be the 35th edition of the Porsche European Open but the first time the Green Eagle Golf Course in Hamburg will host the event. Last year it was Alexander Levy winning on the second playoff hole as he defeated Ross Fisher in a tournament that was shortened to 54 holes because of bad weather. The European Open was not held from 2010 through 2014 but it returned in 2015. No player has successfully defended their European Open title since 2000.

Germany will have a number of players trying to win in front of the home crowd in Hamburg. Marcel Siem, Florian Fritsch, Maximilian Kieffer, Bernd Ritthammer, Alexander Knappe and Sebastian Heisele are expected to compete.
